gay. However - she's an upstanding citizen, a police officer, and a regular volunteer. She loves people and loves helping people. Is she condemned to hell because of her attraction to women, even though she can't help it? Why would god make her gay if he didn't approve of it? Opinions please.

Conservative Country Boy: So in other words she is condemned to be with someone she doesn't love, and live unhappily for the rest of her life? I don't see how being happy in life is what you call "evil".

Wally: You're saying gays rank right up there with pedophiles, alcoholics & violent people? I pity you...

She sounds wonderful.
I have a good relationship with God and I am a lesbian. So far, through all of the questions I have asked regarding the topic, I have gotten SUCH mixed answers. When I asked about atheists going to Heaven because they are good, people said, "No, you must get to Heaven through Christ."
However, when I ask about homosexuality and believing in Christ, people said, "No, you must be heterosexual to get to Heaven."
People claim they do not pick and choose but there is clear evidence that they do. Homosexuality is something only one who is homosexual can understand. Here is my opinion: if she believes in Jesus and is a good person, there is no reason she would not get to Heaven.

I love how people think they have the authority to predict someone else's condemnation. As you know there is nothing wrong with being gay. It is simply a natural variant of human sexuality.
Seriously no one knows what god is or what it wants. It really irks me how people always try to impose their flawed values and belief systems onto some enigmatic energy. If god exists I highly highly doubt it has any such human characteristics. People hate, ridicule, and condemn. Those are pure human preoccupations.
The bible was not written by god but my man. They had an agenda. The only reason anything about homosexuality was written in the bible was b/c wayyyy back when it was written a major concern was keeping the species alive. There is absolutely nothing morally wrong with homosexuality. But I think there IS something morally wrong with having a superior attitude and fighting to with hold rights from an entire group of people. This is the SAME EXACT thing as discrimination against African Americans. People used the bible to justify that bigotry too.

First of all, homosexuality usually IS something that most homosexuals appear to be "born with," so don't let anybody in this thread tell you that your sister wasn't born gay. Chances are, she was. There are many other mammals who appear to be "born gay" as individuals, so this IS a natural phenomenon.
Second, Hell doesn't exist. Please don't worry about your sister's soul. She is a good person; enjoy her goodness here and now, and love her for who and what she is. Who cares whether she's attracted to the same sex? You know this doesn't make her a bad person.
If you really insist on believing in God, then don't you believe that God loves your sister for being such a wonderful person? Don't you believe that he made her to have such a big heart and to be so thoughtful, so service-minded and helpful to her community? If you believe in the popular "all-loving, all-forgiving God" that is so touted in modern theology (even though he certainly is nowhere in the Bible - the God of the Bible is a real crazy mofo) then why should you worry at all?
Better yet, just stop worrying about a myth and enjoy having such a great sister!
"Not Christian, incidentally, but am I right in remembering that the prohibitions against homosexuality in Leviticus are only that a man shall not lie with another man? I think Lesbians aren't mentioned..."
Yes, you are correct. All mentions in the Bible of homosexuality are men-on-men. God is apparently OK with lesbians, according to the Bible, so problem solved. Stop worrying.
"You are not born gay no matter how many people tell you thats true. "
Oh, you're gay, so you know what you're talking about, right?
"as far as Gary7inf.......ONE DAY BABY YOU-LL BOW"
Okay, when that day happens I'll let you know, sugar.

i think and i don't pretend to be an expert but I think that sum Christians would say that God wants her to have faith in him and fight the urge to be with the opposite sex ! but i personally think that God made her and he knows everything and i am sure he wouldn't want her to be unhappy! i believe that being a good person and believing in Christ is better than nothing even though many would argue! but God knows what we will do and be before we know! i don't think there is no wrong or right here and i believe we should leave the judging up to God he knows her heart and he is the only one that is making the last judgement call!!

God did not make her gay anymore than He made the murderer a murder or the pedophile a pedophile.
She is not condemned because of her sexual attraction. If that were true every human being would be condemned. It is acting immorally on those attractions that is sin.
Sexual immorality is only one of the sins.
There's worshipping other gods, murdering, coveting what is not ours, and lying to name a few. But these are there not to condemn us, but to show us WHY we are condemned. No human being can keep ALL of the law and to be saved by the law, you have to keep ALL of it.
Jesus Christ paid the price to save those people who want to be saved from the earnings of their sin. Sin earns death.
People are condemned to hell because they are sinners and have refused the gift of salvation Jesus Christ offers.
Only refusing Jesus sends a person to hell.
Only accepting Jesus saves a person from hell.

She is not condemned for the attraction to women. Temptation is not sin. Living or promoting a sinful lifestyle is sin, whatever form it takes (gossip, lying, drunkeness, etc.) She can only make it to heaven the way all saved people make it: by admitting to God that she is a sinner and believing in the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior and trying to follow Him as instructed in the Bible. Many "good" people like your sister will miss heaven because they refuse to see their need for the Lord. I'll pray for her.

All you can do in life is do the best you can do. Most of us know what's right and wrong. I doubt there is going to be a line, on judgement day, for gays to go one way, and straights to go the other way. Everybody seems to know what's right, but actually they don't. Live your life to the best of your ability and the right way for you will be uncovered.

Understand God loves everyone, even people who are gay (notice I didnt say gay people). It is the sin that God hates, not the person.
God didn't make her gay. He allows people to live and act so that they have free will. And it is better when they come to follow Him by free will rather than forced.

The so-called prohibitions against homosexuality in the Bible are probably the single most misunderstood parts of scripture. It would take far too long to go over each of them here, but I strongly urge you to check out these three sites:
http://whosoever.org/bible/
http://www.soulforce.org/
http://www.rmnetwork.org/
Homosexuality is NOT a sin. Your sister is a child of God, created in God's own image, and she is loved by God -- and so are you.
