no liquids or gells unless each is in a 3 oz bottle and all bottles have to be in a plastic zip up bag (quart)

you cannot bring a nearly empty 12 oz shampoo bottle - it really has to be a three oz or less container

no arms, knives, lighters, matches and etc.

you are allowed to bring camera, computer, ipod (but have all wirless off during the flight because it interviens with the pilot's radio and it can be hard for them to hear directions, you don't want that, trust me)

you are allowed to buy a bottle of water once you get to the gate and bring it onto the plane

you are allowed to bring food with you to the airports like apples and sandwiches

Please look at the TSA list for the definitive answers. Many of the answers you have received above are incorrect. For instance, scissors ARE allowed as long as the blade is less than 4 inches.
