not to "worship the flag" as in, dont stand up with others to do the pledge of allegiance in school with the other kids?

I have a friend whose child has a classmate that told her she didnt have to stand because she doesnt worship the flag. Was just curious who teaches that.

Whoever told that child that standing was "worship" was off-base.

Standing is a sign of respect, not worship.

It probably has more to due with the ‘swearing allegiance’ to something other than God, than merely standing up in honor of the flag, though some strict religion may consider the flag to be an idol.

What is the difference between a bow and a salute or repeating a pledge or saying a prayer? Nothing.

Based on the Bible, our exclusive worship is required to Jehovah. He does not approve of divided loyalties. (Nahum 1:2; Matt. 6:24)

Jehovah's Witnesses endured WWII in the Nazi camps right along with everyone else. The difference is they could have gone free and clear if they had only saluted Hitler and said a pledge to Heil Hitler. They refused. Even today, JWs are living and dying in prisons for refusing to carry a political card joining them to a political party. They could get out for one signature. They don't.

In the US, we have it pretty good. There has been prison and jail times for our beliefs here and 59 trips to the Supreme Court to secure proper enforcement and fairness of the laws of the land. It is the reason our detractors have as much freedom as they do though it makes them spitting mad to be reminded of that. So here I am in R&S doing so.

I don't know, but we don't worship the flag. Even Jesus said give unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar and give unto God what belongs to God. Matthew 22:15-21 We pledge allegiance to the flag because it is our country's flag and we are to honor those in authority over us. We salute it and we pledge allegiance to it which is no more than honoring the authority that it represents.

Remember that when you run down the Office of the President of the United States of America. You are to honor that office more than you honor the man in it. God does not like idle words being spoken about the rulers that He puts into authority. The Word of God says that God puts the rulers in and God takes the rulers out.

Sounds like what I tell my kids, "I brought you into this world and I can take you out." Just Kidding, but God isn't.

It doesn't sound like any religion. It sounds like some parent is fed up with nationalism and jingoism.
