Very usually - just make sure the retailer you are using has a current Site Safety Certificate - usually a little gold padlock showing somewhere.

Use a credit card instead of a debit card when making online purchases.
If you buy something with a credit card, and the merchandise arrives in bad condition, or you don't get the items, you can dispute the charges with your credit card company, and you won't have to pay for the items while they investigate what happened.
When you use a debit card, the money comes directly out of your checking account, and it can be difficult to retrieve.
If your credit card information is stolen online, you are protected from the results of fraud. If your debit card information is stolen, you may be liable for at least part of the purchases the thief charges to the card. This can vary by who issued the debit card, so check with your bank for the details.

I do all of the time, you just have to make sure that wherever you shop is trustworthy, and sometimes thats hard. But they do have BBB online. I have never had a problem with anyone overcharging, double charging, or stealing my number. Thank God and knock on wood!

I use mine every week on Tesco. I have used this service for 5 years and never had a problem. Make sure the site you use is secure and you won't have a problem.

Debit cards don't have the same protections as credit cards, so be careful.

If you stick with legitimate sites, it is perfectly safe. If you use it at Shady McShaderson's discount cracked software store then you could run into trouble.
