or the equivalent of confirmation?

Some Buddhist centers in the United States have youth programs/groups and some do not. Usually, it's the larger groups that have enough interest to sustain a youth group.

Young people, if they are serious about Buddhism, can take precepts or refuge (depending on the tradition) and thereby formalize their commitment to the Buddhist path.

Some Buddhist groups have special "coming of age" programs for young people. See the links below for examples. Hope this helps.

I practice Nichiren Buddhism and my answer reflects that school of thought, not all of them.

There is nothing equivalent to confirmation in catholicism.

Each kaikan ~ community center where people from an area come together ~ has youth group support. There are meetings, study and activities provided for youth.

There is a ceremony when a child or adult becomes independent of their parents or guardian (leave home) and receives their own gohonzon which is a scroll we use as a focal point when we meditate.

Yes, there are - especially in Burma. The youth, both boys and girls, organize themselves for various activities: learning Buddhism, cleaning the areas around pagodas, serving with good services to the monks, etc. They organize the activities all year round. They also meditate together and usually practice 8 silas, 10 silas, etc. However, they are usually encouraged by the young themselves even though usually the adults are also involved.
The sutta stories that motivated them are about the bhodhisatva and Sakka - the lord of devas. In various lives, the bhodhisatva served the people voluntarily with good services. The person who became Lord Sakka - was a head of a village where he served all people with good services, building or repairing bridges, roads, etc. He didn't fail even when he was threaten by the king who eventually killed them. When he died he became Sakka.

Sakka: The "King of Devas "; the lord over the celestial beings in the heaven of the "Thirty-Three ".

The Trāyastriṃśa devas, who live on the peak of Sumeru and are something like the Olympian gods. Their ruler is Śakra.

Sila: moral virtue, morality, moral practice or conduct; the Five, Eight or Ten Precepts

I'm glad to provide info to you.

The equivalent of confirmation in Buddhism is to seek refuge in the three jewels (what one relies on for his/her lasting happiness). The three jewels of Buddhism are the Buddha (mind's perfection of enlightenment), the Dharma (teachings and methods), and the Sangha (awakened beings who provide guidance and support).

Such ceremony is performed by a monk or nun (typically in a monastery).
