I've been noticing more and more that the hearing in my left ear is not good. I had an eardrum burst when I was a small child, and I am starting to wonder if it was the left one (I don't remember the incident--I was under 5.) I can't hear people who are sitting on my left unless they are talking very loudly--I am having to pretend to hear them by nodding along, or turning my head so my right ear is facing them. Can a GP do a hearing test, or do I need to see a specialist?

I'd start there! He may do some basic tests, and decide what to do.
It might be a wax build up. he can take care of that in 5 minutes.
An ENT ) Ears, nose, throat) specialist is who he'd refer you to if needed..
Good luck.

It is best to see an ear, nose and throat specialist. By doing this, you know that you are in competent hands. If you need surgery, he/she may actually do it for you. If you go to a reg. Dr., I think he will just refer you to the specialist.

You need to see a specialist, GP's don't have the necessary equipment to test your hearing.
