I guess you mean to sleep,,it is to cut out light and stop information that would keep you awake from entering the mind,,,

I think it's something to do with when we sleep, our muscles rest to save energy for the next day. Our muscles have to work to keep our eyes open, so that's why it's much more relaxing to shut your eyes; and therefore why your eyes close when you sleep. ^^

Also, when we are alseep we probably don't blink; so we have to keep them shut to keep our eyes from drying out. It's also hard to sleep if light is getting through to your retina, so the eyelids block out this light.

Because it would look too creepy if we slept with our eyes open...

Seriously, to keep the eyes from drying out, to allow eye muscles to rest (so i've been told), to prevent light from disturbing our sleep..

mine close because they are so heavy when i am tired. one of my sons sleeps with his eyes open, looks really weird.
