Since, last thursday, I've been having couple of really nasty thoughts in my head (don't want to talk about them...lets just say blasphemous ). The weired thing is that, the words that I'm associating with those thoughts, are used frequently by me (not good words) .I tried to not think of those thoughts, but it got worse. And because of that I can't focus on my studies these couple of days. Same thoughts are in my head all day long. Also, lately I have trouble concentrating or focusing on anything. I'm not very religious but am a strong & true christian. Help me !

Thanks.

Ingore them.

Live your life as a strong and true Christian regardless of these thoughts.

Ingore them long enough, and don't let them affect your behavior, and they will go away.

Will pray.

2 Corinthians 10:5
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

Romans 8:6
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

The most revolting part of the human body is, beyond a doubt, the mind. It is corrupt and perverse and is always warring against the spirit. The sinful mind of a man is like decay. It is like a poisonous cancer that contaminates the body. If not stopped in the early stages, cancer will spread like a wild fire and break the body down. Eventually the cancer will kill you.

Meditate on the Lord, not on circumstances. Meditate through His word, not on the man standing behind the pulpit. The Lord commanded us to take every thought captive and BRING those thoughts into the obedience of the Word of God. Stop the thoughts in their tracks that do not come from the Lord, and pray.

If you are battling with your thought life and not succeeding with taking thoughts captive, I encourage you to submit to the Lord by humbling yourself, repent wholeheartedly, resist the enemy and then he will flee. Ask the Lord to give you the mind of Christ. Before you start arguing with someone in your mind, pray for that person. Before you start having fantasies in your mind, take a walk and pray. Read your Word and study it. The Lord is faithful and if you are truly willing, then He can and will change you

part of your problem might be that you are concentrating too hard on trying not to think about these things. If I told you to go and stand in the corner and DON'T think about pink elephants - you are going to have a hard time not thinking about pink elephants.

Rather than concenrating so hard on not thinking about these things, start thinking about a scripture, repeat it to yourself- like when you have a song stuck in your head, sing another one over and over- the word of God cleanses and sanctifies- Pick a scripture to memorize- preferrably one that answers whatever your thoughts are about but anything that is good, true, honest, pure- think on this things, speak them out of your mouth, write them and keep them before your eyes.
Take every thought captive and bring it into the obedience of Christ- if you know that your thoughts are not pleasing to God, change them- not by concentrating on the negative thought but by concentrating on the truth of His word- you cannot always control what pops into your head but you can control whether you are goign to entertain it or not- be transformed by the renewing of your mind- renew your mind with the word of God, with His truth.

Say the Rosary

Listen to Joel Osteen, he is amazing, I am Catholic and I get so much positive guidance from his words. You can watch him online at his website for free, trust me he talks specifically of this and its about changing the messages you give yourself and its very realistic and it works, I have been able to cut majorly back on smoking because of his advice and that is something I have really had a hard time doing.

Do you realize the torment you are experiencing isn't the presence of the thoughts in question, but the irrational and unrealistic constraints your religion has subjected you to?

This is a good example of cognitive dissonance. Look it up.

Drift,
I would be glad to pray for you and ask that others do so as well. I suggest that you read the book of acts through as you have time. It is a wonderful book that reminds us of many conversions and the beginnings of CHRIST'S CHURCH. Have a good weekend.
Thanks,
Eds

Here folks, is a perfect example of why Christian doctrine and beliefs are harmful to humans.

This poor guy is struggling with faith instead of studying science. His reasoning is causing him to address religious issues, which is causing stress and fear.

Eventually he will have to shut off questioning and reason in order to support his faith, which opens him up to influence from people who claim to have all the answers, and claim to know the will of God.

This problem is what led Muhammad Atta to believe that flying planes into the world trade center was an act of virtue and honor. His dereliction of reason and adherence to faith based belief caused him to convince himself that terrorism was just.

This is why faith based belief is so dangerous.
