I would bring something cheaper, like a small duffle bag, that's what I am bringing.
By the way, when do you leave?
My ship date is Dec.11.

I know when I went to Paris Island for basic, I took some money, not much, a couple pictures. All the clothes I was wearing got put in a paper bag and put in a wear house. When I graduated basic I got the bag back with all its contents, but the clothes weren't worth wearing. We had 2 weeks boot leave before reporting to the first school. Just wore my uniform home and packed my civies when i left. If you must take more, take the cheapest bag you can find.

You recruiter should tell you the list of things you need to bring with you to basic. The list is normally very short and would not exceed a change of underwear and a toothbrush. I would carry all of that in the cheapest plastic grocery bag you can find. I certainly would not take along any expensive bags, jewelry or electronics.

Don't worry about your bag it will be fine. They lock everyone's luggage in a closet when you get there. It doesn't get thrown around or anything like that. They will go through everything you bring with you, so don't be stupid. But for the most part if you brought something you're not supposed to have during basic, they will just lock it up with your bag.

For those who don't know, BMT means "Basic Military Training". We Soldiers call it "BCT" (Basic Combat Training).
Make sure you don't take valuables and expensive hardware. Take a cheaper backpack. I don't know in the Air Force but when you go to BCT people of ten get items thrown to the trash by the Drill Sergeants/Instructors. Items often get lost and are never found.
You will have a lot of things to worry about at basic training. You don't want to be worrying about your personal items.

No matter what they told you, take civilan clothing to basic training,
Carry a suit case.
It will not get banged up in storage, they have a closet in the barracks, everything is locked up in the closet.
When you leave basic, you will go straight to your tech school.
So what you take to basic, is what you will have when you get to tech school.
Now don't you think it might be nice to have some civilian clothes to wear when your off duty at tech school ?
Maybe an alarm clock to wake you up ?
Your cell phone ?
And anything else you might want at tech school ?
The Air Force does not ship excess items home, they just lock em up in the storage closet during basic.

Anything you bring like that gets put in a box and mailed back home. Talk to your recruiter about what you are really allowed to bring with you and then decide if you need to bring any bag at all. Usually the guys get EVERYTHING you will be authorized to use while there issued to you. This includes your underwear, socks, t-shirt, soap, shampoo, shave kit, uniforms, shoes, boots, the works. What were you planning on bringing that you need a bag for. Even the clothes on your back get put in a sealed box until the day you leave to go on to your next school. Once you get to your next level of training, things change some and backpacks are allowed, but still not in uniform unless they meet uniform regulations. After you are ALL DONE with all your training you can use your backpack you love like a normal human being, but still again not in uniform. All you can really bring with you these days is a small bible, which again you can get from the Chaplain if you would like one and also a small address book, notepad paper, envelopes and stamps to write home with. You can buy all that stuff there too. Hope this puts things into clearer perspective.
Talk to your recruiter about it, that is why they are there, to answer questions like these. Good luck.

I wouldn't take the Alienware bag. I would take a daypack with me that I would feel comfortable running in just in case I had to. I'd also make sure it was big enough to hold everything I needed to bring with me. When I ship to OCS I'm probably going to pack up my Camelbak Motherlode.

Take an overnight bag with two changes of clothes and the supply list that you were given by your recuiter. Then have your parents send your stuff to Tech School.

Don't listen to the Navy chick....she's telling you about Navy boot camp which is not like AF basic.....
your recruiter should have given you a packing list...if not ask him/her/it for the packing list and it tells you exactly what you can and cannot take with you.
