My head feels extremely heavy, and I get quite dizzy plus my vision seems to darken and I can feel my heartbeat is heavy. It only happens when I get up suddenly from sitting or lying down, and lasts for a number of seconds. I've had this before and if memory serves me correct, when I had my blood tested, I was told my blood pressure was a little higher than it should be.
However, I also have throbbing pains where my arteries are, and I didn't have this before. These pains are in my upper arms and thighs, and very occasionally in my lower torso region. It may sound stupid or weird me saying this, but these pains feel like they're coming from my arteries, yet I don't know whether you have nerves in your arteries that could allow you to feel anything. These throbbing pains happen randomly and my legs or arms aren't crossed, or in any positions that would allow blood flow to anywhere else but down, normally.

I'm starting to get a little worried because I've had this for several months now

Find out if you're hypertensive. Check your blood pressure at three different times of day - morning, noon and night - and on three different days, such as Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If your pressure is consistently higher than normal, you are still hypertensive. The AHA (American Heart Association) has modified the guidelines that define hypertension. According to these, adults should all be less than 120/80.

What you are describing sounds more like a temporary drop in blood pressure which happens when a person stands up - this is called orthostatic hypotension. When the blood pressure drops, the heart tries to compensate by increased pulse rate and rapid dilation of arteries and veins - which feels pretty much like you are describing.

People can sometimes control this by strengthening the leg muscles, and holding your breath momentarily and fully flexing the leg muscles as much as possible as you stand up; and finally, standing up slowly. Remaining fully hydrated (to maximize blood volume) also helps. If these things don't work, there are medications avaialble.

Why don't you go to see a doctor? It's quite risky and very dangerous if you let go this problem.
I've got high blood preasure for years and now I'm still being controled closely by doctors.Don't waste time to ask,but go straight to see doctors right away.

You shouldnt take chances with blood pressure problems hun, go to the docs and get it checked out, you dont have to tell them all your symptoms if you dont want to but just ask for a check up.
