I was born a sick child, and nearly died several times (bad kidneys) Still dealing with those problems as an adult. Is it my parents fault? Or genetics?
Good question!

Ill is a figure of speech. We are born with same amount of sin we got from Adam and Eve. also figure of speech. So you are comparing 2 unlike things here.
Tell me why some mothers smoke and their babies are born fine but mothers that eat right and do all the right things have babies and they arent fine.
You are taking it to literal
People become weaken by sin or ill, because sinning is easier than doing the right thing. Its a metaphor..
God doesnt punish children who are babies cause they are sinners. The world is not a perfect place and that is what causes babies to be sick.IT could be the negligence of the doctor, the mother, the nurse. The baby could have been sick before it left the mother.
I am not a JW but it seems like you are just attacking another religion you know nothing about so really you are just being ignorant..
Whats ignorant to me is that you have taken this information and ran with it. JW are not the only religion to believe that.. So yes you may have gotten it from one of their books but Its also in the bible. Again though this refers to the Sin they inherited from Adam and Eve.We are imperfect humans. We sin all the time. But God understands that and that is why he doesnt make us robots he has given us free will just the same as he gave adam and eve. Although, them being so close to perfect and sinning was a great dissappointment. So I was simply stating that your statement you are taking something metaphorically and using it as a weapon against one religion, but again most religions believe that especially in the Christian Catagory.

Dear "kc":
This inheritance of sin is with us from the time of conception in the womb. It is for that reason that King David wrote: “In sin my mother conceived me.” (Psalms 51:5) Jehovah lovingly extends to children the benefits of Christ’s ransom sacrifice. Out of consideration for parents who faithfully serve God, he views their young children as holy. (1 Cor. 7:14) This motivates God-fearing parents to be careful about their own standing with God, out of loving concern for their offspring. To young ones who are old enough to exercise faith and demonstrate obedience to God’s commands, Jehovah extends the privilege of having an approved standing as his servants. (Psalms 119:9; 148:12, 13; Acts 16:1-3.) It is noteworthy that Jesus, who was a perfect reflection of his Father, showed special interest in the welfare of children.—Matthew 19:13-15; Luke 8:41, 42, 49-56.
If you continue reading in the publication "Learn from the Great Teacher" Chapter 23: p. 125 - it explains further:
"We are all born imperfect. So, sooner or later, everybody will have some kind of sickness. Even people who try to obey all of God’s laws and who do nothing really bad can get sick.
Then, why do some people get sick more often than others?— There are many reasons. It may be that they do not have enough food to eat. Or they may not eat the right kind of food. They may eat too much cake and candy. Another reason may be that they stay up too late at night and do not get enough sleep. Or they may not dress warmly enough before they go out into the cold. Some people’s bodies are too weak, and they can’t fight sickness, even if they try to take care of themselves."
There is hope - we will never get sick again. We will all have perfect health.

You are slightly missunderstanding the beliefs.
We all inherit sin as we come from imperfect parents. Illness is not god's punishment for specific sin but an inevitable result of not being perfect. Just as two machines from the same factory may develop faults in different ways and at different times, we can all get sick at any time in our life.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe or teach that there is a direct correlation between sin and illness, but an indirect one. Rather, the bible teaches that Adam's sin compromised the genetic perfection that humankind had enjoyed, forever afterward making humans susceptible to illness and aging.
(1 Corinthians 15:21-22) For since death is through a man, resurrection of the dead is also through a man. For just as in Adam all are dying, so also in the Christ all will be made alive.
(Romans 5:11-12) We are also exulting in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. ...through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned
In addition, humankind's independence from God means that His miraculous protection is incomplete at this time. After Armageddon, humankind will become physically perfect first, followed by spiritual perfection. It is only spiritual protection that provides a certain hope for eternal life.

You got your quote half right.
Great Teacher book: quote> "We learn that people get sick because of sin.
Since we all get sick sometimes, does this mean that we are all sinners?— Yes, the Bible says that all of us are born with sin. Do you know what it means to be born with sin?— It means that we are born imperfect."
>unquote
It doesn't mean all sickness come from "our sins" unless you get AIDS from fornication.
or
Liver problems because of over drinking.
It means we get sick because our bodies are no longer perfect.
Each person is different as to their physical make up.
Each person is different as to their pre natal care.
All people get sick, all people die, Why, because we have inherited imperfection (sin) from Adam and Eve.
That is why the Last Adam (Jesus) is a life giving Spirit.
What is why Jesus becomes our Eternal Father until we become perfect again so that he can hand us over to his God and Father.
(1 Corinthians 15:24) 24 Next, the end, when he hands over the kingdom to his God and Father, when he has brought to nothing all government and all authority and power.

I would answer it like this:
After the fall of man ( Adam & Eve ) , we all become ill and die. The baby who dies at 2 weeks does not suffer for 70 years , Colds , Flu , broken Legs , Triple Heart by-passes , etc his ‘ sin ‘ is concentrated in those 2 weeks and his parents suffer for many years .
But then I am not a JW , this is just my understanding of the JW delusion .

Ro. 5:12: "That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned."
It was as sinners that Adam and Eve produced children, and they could not pass on to their children what they no longer had. All were born in sin, with inclinations toward wrongdoing, weaknesses that could lead to illness, a sinful inheritance that would eventually result in death. Because everyone on earth today was born in sin, all of us experience suffering in various ways, whether that suffering is a result of sickness, birth defects, or other human tragedies.
