Ps. 82 is speaking of wicked human judges, not idols. And they were called 'gods" by Almighty God himself. (Vs. 6)However, their being called “gods” will not save these judges; neither will their considering themselves to be “sons of the Most High” or sons of God. That gives them no immortality. They are still mortal and will die just like other men. They will fall in death just like other judicial princes on earth, and this by the execution of God’s judgment. God’s word was against them in adverse judgment. It was human gods like these, among the Jews, that caused Jesus to be put to death at the hands of the Romans.

This would be man in high places in a court setting. This is gods in a national court system. But God (Creator) is there in the Court & judges among the judges. So? This would be like the judges in the US Supreme Court. Like God knows the ones who voted to legalize abortion & the ones who didn't. And then our Presidents are the ones who put those judges in their position on the Supreme Court.
So? These judges (gods) are encouraged to judge wisely according to God Almighty. To judge justly, to defend the poor & fatherless; do justice to the afflicted & needy, deliver the poor & needy: deliver them out of the hand of the wicked. These gods of the Israeli court system were humans who would die physically & Jesus is the God who will have victory over these things that those judges where told to do & had difficulty. Jesus judges in righteousness & truth.
In verse 8, Jesus is the O God who judges the earth And Jesus will do this with those faithful to Him in when He returns with His Saints to defeat the antichrist, false prophets & devils...

Look at my profile at a question someone had asked about John 10:43 before you read my response
The gods that are spoken of are men, have you not read :that we are created in the image of God. Did you not know that all things are possible with him. And last, that we are the righteousness of God". It is spoken that he, the Lord Most High, offers us his very soul if we just believe. But without him, the consequence is death and destruction like what happened with the children of Isreal in the wilderness. It is our responsibility to share and educate of the word, just is he had that very day.

The possibilities are many, but in context He was referring to 'rulers', in my opinion.

Human beings like to think of themselves as godlike--able to do whatever they like. Many commentators believe this psalm's snort of disdain is aimed at human judges and "powers that be" who set themselves up as little gods. What will become of their arrogance if they defy God? They will "die like men!" The grave is a perfect answer to their pretensions.
