OK, if two people meet on the internet or in a bar or just hanging out in the streets, and they decide to have a "fun time", is that legal? Because people make such a big deal out of Prostitution and making it illegal, but that's just the same as a man going into a bar and getting a girl for a one night stand. So why is "hooking up" not illegal? Is it just the fact that the IRS doesn't get any money out of the prostitutes?

Hooking up is legal as long as both are consenting adults and neither money nor goods are exchanged for sex.

As to why that is legal and prostitution is not? I have no clue. I've heard arguments that it will promote human trafficing and slavery - but if it's legal, they won't be forcing people into it, becuase there are already people who choose to be prostitutes. If it's for moral reasons, then it's the same situation as the ban on gay marriage - they are banning something based on a religious code, which violates the constitutional separation of church and state. If it's to protect families, then it's ineffective, as extramarital affairs happen, so prostitution isn't even close to comparable in sheer porportion.

Additionally, in places where prostitution is legal, there are healthcode enforcements and taxes. The 'workers' are regularly checked for disease, and condoms are required. (Since 1986, when mandatory testing began, not a single brothel prostitute has ever tested positive for HIV. The mandatory condom law was passed in 1988. A study conducted in 1995 in two brothels found that condom use in the brothels was consistent and sexually transmitted diseases were accordingly absent. The study also found that few of the prostitutes used condoms in their private lives.[) Most young adults aren't regularly checked and few use condoms - I'd consider picking someone up at a bar far more risky myself. Plus, taxes = money for community improvement. Legalizing it means setting laws up for safe practices, how many customers a person can have in a day, and legal ages of workers (i.d. would be required to work), etc. It would't be "street corners' - it would be monitored brothels. In places where it is legal (i.e. Nevada) it works well.

Abortion is legal becuase "a woman should be able to do as she pleases with her body" but prostitution is not? So you can abort a potential life, but you can get your rocks off for cash?

Heck, Porn is legal! Porn = selling sex for money and LETTING EVERYONE WATCH. How is that any different?

Something is vitally wrong with that theory.

The fact is.. it is perfectly legal to just get with somebody for sex if no money is exchanged. It is called free will.. and we live in a free country.

The IRS might have something to do with why prostitution is illegal but its also illegal because there are young girls who are not 18 selling themselves to live, and if they let prostitution be legal then they would have no way to monitor who's of legal age and who's not.

Prostitution also spread disease (not like hooking up doesn't.. but prostitutes can sleep with as many as 20 men in one night..)

This world is so caught up on sex today.. It shouldn't be like this. People need to find respect for themselves.

Free will still exist what we do is calculate possibilities and odds after the fact, like if you decide to go hiking and get caught in a blizzard which results in your death, we then calculate that incident along with other accidents of the same nature then we are able to give odds of this type of accident occurring. We are a large population, it is ridiculous to think that that our free will choice will be unique to just us, the chances are that someone else has decided the same thing, it just stands to reason. So although it would seem from statistics that the decisions we make can be anticipated they are still a free decision. Free will choice is defined by personal actions based on our own personal experiences.

Yes, it is legal for you to hook up with someone just for fun if no money is evolved. Your last reason was correct. If they could tax prostitution they would. If weed good be taxed that would be legal to.

Hooking up is not selling a service. It is not regulated for taxes, health and safety guidelines, etc. But it is a good time sometimes ;-)

PS prostitution is not illegal everywhere either.

If both are of the age of consent and willing, and there is no exchange of money or goods for sex, it is perfectly legal.
