pilates. It doesn't build muscle but stretches and elongates it for a long, lean appearance. In a month you will lose about 15 lbs by doing it 20-40 minutes a day switching up intensities so your body doesn't get used to it and adjust to the resistance.

RE:
i want to lose weight, not gain muscle!?
I need ways to lose weight but NOT gain muscle. I will do that after I have lost about
6-10 pounds. I know the best way is to run and swim, well I hate running and its not swim season so I need some more ideas. I do enjoy walking though.

Sorry to say but the fastest way lose weight, and best way to keep it off, is to run 15-30min a day and ...lift weights. For every pound of muscle you put on, you will burn 50 cal. doing nothing! If one girl just ran 3-4 days a week versus one who ran 3-4 days a week and weight trained, the second girl will see results a lot faster and will keep her weight off easier due to the muscle. You cant lose fat and then gain muscle. Muscle is used to get rid of fat. I suggest doing the running/fast pace walking 3-4 days a week, skipping is also a good alternative to running...and weight lifting. You dont have to lift a lot, and you wont put on a lot of muscle anyway because you are a female...your muscle mass is predetermined once you were born. Try circuit training doing a little bit of everything and then try arms one day, back/shoulders another, legs another and chest on the last day. Do abs only 2 a week. You shouldnt over work them or they will not look slim...and make sure you suck in your tummy when doing every crunch.

I had the same problem, everyone will tell you the key to losing weight is more muscle because muscle burns more fat. I wasnt superman or anything but i dont like being able to see my muscles so clearly. If you have the money you can take pilates and yoga classes, they helped me slim down a lot. It makes you strong but keeps your muscles lean. Or you can buy a pilates dvd but i like the classes better for the variety.

Actually gaining some muscle with help with losing weight and you will look better if you are toned. Without any kind of muscle definition, you will always look flabby, no matter how skinny you are.

GO BACK TO BASICS. fruits and veggies, no fast foods or processed foods, limited meat, nothing fried, no dairy, lots of fresh water, and EXERCISE. Running is not good for the female body, but fast walking and swinging your arms is good. Find some stairs and go up and down and up and down.
Building muscle is not a BAD thing. You just don't want a weight lifters body. Muscle tone is good and it will come with some exercise and a good diet. Remember you heart is a muscle and we want that guy is good shape.
