My hair is either really really dry and I don't know what shampoo and conditioners to use.
I have tried all the 'upmarket' brands like Sunsilk and Herbal Essences but they just make it greasy.
I straighten my hair a lot so does that mean I need to use heat defence shampoo/conditioner?

Thanks

Hi Sunsilk is always been rubbish and I find herbal essences to dry my hair more and make my root really greasy.

I wouldnt nesscary say you will need to us a heat protection shampoo and conditoner but you will need one to protect from breakage and that strengthens the hair.
I once used charles worthington stay smooth which has heat protection in it and it just made my hair lank and greasy.

Its always best however to use a heat protection spray. I find inftratreat to be really good its 6.99 from sallys which is expensive, also avons is good too. I dont recommend tresemme as I dont think it protects the hair and make hair breakage worse for some reason.

However if you want a really excellent shampoo and conditoner for your all round needs I recommend tresemme shampoo and conditoner for extra dry brittle weak hair, it should be the purple label one, but im not sure as they have changed it this shampoo and conditioner has really changed my hair, and got it back into conditon and protects for the heat and styling damage to, so it a bonus. the only down side is I have a sensitive scalp and this irritated it so I had to stop using it,

Pantene Ice Shine is excellent to but doesnt protect from heat but you can use an alternative one if you would like, but I wouldnt recommend it if you have coloured hair as it strips colour right out, and also the scent is quite strong so I use it every other day or I get a dry scalp.

Its not just what you wash and condtion you hair with either it also what you put on after you have towel dried it, its always best if you straighten your hair to us a straightning cream or hair serum or both even.and of course a heat protection spray like I mentiond before.
Im loving at the moment, frutis hair serum
see below
http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1040048&classificationid=1025740

and fructis smoothing cream its new out at the moment but most stores have the cream , I got mine from morrisons, this has heat protection in it too so thats even more good, If you cannot find the serum thats in the ball shape then just use another as this is hard to find only boots sell it I think then they have it one min and then they dont.
If you cannot get this one the I recommend Avons Dry Ends Hair serum,. I would recommend this anyways to finish of you style but its great on damp hair too. and leave hair feeling really soft like new hair and its not lie, I dont recommend frizz ease at all as its rubbish and leaves hair greasy as it doesnt go along way however this avon one goes miles so you only need a drop as its like water and just soaks in every where and doesnt coat the hair either like frizz ease does.

here it is http://avonshop.co.uk/shop/product.asp?src_page=product_list.asp&level1_id=700&level2_id=741&pdept_id=1004&dept_id=&pf_id=30495

as for shampoo and conditoner the one that has always been good for my hair is fructis after spending loads of money on products like tony and guy its just not worth it, So I recommend to try first of all the tresemme and then frutis once your hair has gotten into shape,

Sorry this was so long, but I have spent years trying to find something that works for my hair as my hair was so damages it was snapping off and frizzing up everywhere and went really thin. I have tried nearly everythig out there and these are the only products that do the trick without making hair look greasy.

You could try Paul Mitchell - they have a new 'Express Style' line which is aimed at getting quicker drying results (I think the product you need is called Quick Slip, around £8-10 from salon that stock Paul Mitchell). Also make sure you rough dry your hair as much as possible before blow drying. For example - towel dry, apply products, dry roughly using just fingers and dryer until 80% dry, then use a brush with the dryer to smooth a little, and finally use straighteners. Or possibly miss out the blow drying entirely! I know it sounds weird but the straighteners we use now are much more efficient and can easily straighten even the most frizzy, rough dried, hair!

I would think so. Using heat on your hair a lot would dry it out. Give it a boost by massaging almond oil into your dry hair once in a while. Wrap it up in an old towel for about an hour. The heat from your head will help the oil soak in and spread around. Afterwards, just shampoo your hair normally and let it dry naturally. Lay off the straighteners and blow drying for a while too. If your hair is really greasy and you're brunette, you can rinse it with vinegar in water. If you're a blonde, rinse with lemon juice in water.

It helps a lot if you wash your hair only 3 times a week as long as your hair doesn't get too greasy naturally. Also, try using a heat protector/straightening serum before using your straightener and blow-dryer which will definitely help with frying and drying out of your strands. Doing a once-a-week deep moisturize will help too, such as putting mayo in your hair and standing under something hot, or using a hot oil treatment, which can be bought at most drugstores/ supermarkets. Good luck!!

Hi ya,
The products you tried are maybe too heavy for your hair that's why it makes too greasy. You need to try something lighter.. Try Redken clear moisture shampoo and conditioner. Give moisture but not heavy...
If you straight your hair quite often, you REALLY need a heat protector. Paul Mitchell Seal and Shine is a really nice product and quite cheap about £6.90

My hair's dry (or that's what hairdressers always say!) and Tresemme seems to work without it becoming lanky. But just put it on the ends, leave it for a minute and rinse while combing it through. I like it. Try to give your hair a rest from the straighteners - it's the fastest way to kill your hair!

yes use heat defence products and use a conditioning treatment once a month - you can go to your hairdresser for this or you can buy one off the shelf, i would advise going to the hairdresser for one and then you can get some more advice about your problem and ask which products they reccomend.

you might try some professional hair care products, since upmarkaet products normally didnt work since which only use silicone to temporaly smoothing your hair....i would suggested you to use Schwarzkopf Bonacure series productsm like repair shampoo, and treatment....you could get it only by log onto http://mymall.netbuilder.com.my/index.php?domain=kcareshop&doit=showclass&cid=48, www.kcareshop.com, which offer wide range of useful professional hair care products and styling product.
