Is it not written in your law, I said you are 'gods' (judges).

However, this word elohim has a MAJOR problem with it.
The root meaning of 'gods', 'elohim', even 'el' and 'god' is DAEMON, or DEMONS. This word WAS NOT PART OF THE TEXT until the time of the "E" source or ELOHIST writings WHICH POSTDATE the "J" source or Yahwist writings. "El", "Elohim", "Eloha", "Al" and etc. are all part of an attempted REPLACEMENT of the name Yahweh for the Cannanite deity 'EL', the father of "BAAL".

the word gods there is the same word Eloihim translated gods, but it is also translated judges. In Exodus, chapter 22, verses 8 and 9, as God is giving instructions in the law for how the judges are to determine certain cases, and God calls the judges gods because a judge has such authority over a person's destiny. And because he holds the power of a person's life and destiny, God called judges gods. So, "God stands in the congregation of the mighty. He judges among the judges." Or, God will be judging the judges.

The gods (lower case) are the rulers that judge on God's behalf, as his representatives as if gods among men. They have failed to render Godly justice and now will be removed from power and will die among the common people. This likely refers to Israel before God allowed them to be destroyed by outside forces because they had rejected him.

Look at this translation form the Amplified Bible:

1GOD STANDS in the assembly [of the representatives] of God; in the midst of the magistrates or judges He gives judgment [as] among the gods.
2How long will you [magistrates or judges] judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

3Do justice to the weak (poor) and fatherless; maintain the rights of the afflicted and needy.

4Deliver the poor and needy; rescue them out of the hand of the wicked.

In hebrew it was a lowercase E "elohim" is the hebrew word used here. "Elohim" with a captial E is our "God"

Well there's God and the other gods. The other gods aren't as cool as God because they only have lower-case g's. They basically hang out in the assembly, not doing much other than griping about slack capitalisation standards.

I wonder if ancient hebrew also has lower case g's?

I believe it is speaking of the same sons of God written in Genesis 6:2.
Zeus, Apollo, Hermes etc.
