*facilitate means a strong influence or influence, not a direct cause For instance increasing the price of a product, will facilitate people to decrease consumption. Though if the person really enjoys the product and decides he/she rather spend the money, or if the people's wage increases - they might consume the same.

By "its very nature" I mean the intrinisic nature of the religion; not acts based on a blatant excuse that doesn't have a related connection to religious texts or ideas

The very nature of religion is a belief in something supernatural. If you have a vague script that can be interpreted broadly, who is to stop you from being violent in the name of the all-powerful, especially when your ultimate reward for this is as irrational as your motivation?

Do a search using the words violence and monotheism together. There are some very interesting papers out there. Psychological. And Anthropological. They discuss that the monotheistic religions (one god) tend to be inherently a problem in that area.

In particular you might want to check out this site
http://www.roadtopeace.org/index.php?itemid=389
which interestingly enough does have a chart trying to rate the violance (both to and from) each major religous group.

I particularly find it interesting that the top 3 religions are all abramaic (share the same god)

The religions that envision a cosmic battle between the forces of abstract "good" and abstract "evil" are likely to lead to violence, since their adherents are bound to consider themselves to be representatives of "good," and will therefore require some "other" whom they can demonize as "evil" so as to distinguish themselves favorably.
