My boyfriend and I are moving into our first apartment soon and I need some good decorating ideas (since im gonna be doing most of the decorating). We're both young, I'm 20 & he's 21, so we dont want anything that looks to old fashion. I have some ideas, but its always good to hear more. (we have a 1 bedroom, not a studio)

Because of your age, I would think along the lines of simple and clean, in light greys, charcoal, and maybe burgundys or red. Add the red as accents in vases, or framed prints on the wall and pillows with wide stripes in the grey, charcoal and red. Walls...if you are allowed to paint them (get that in writing by the landloard before you do it) Try a Light to medium grey stripe horizonal about 16-18" wide and just above the back of the couch height. Charcoal, or black accent furniture. This format will be striking in the living room, and inexpensive to accomplish. Bedroom, carry one of the colors you use in the living room into the bedroom, such as charcoal for the bed comforter and shams, but accent the bed and windows with a Stripe fabric, and bring in another color like dark purple, or a sage green. For the uumff of color. Furniture can be white, and accents, in the purple or sage, and maybe a butterscotch. Bathroom, can be decorated with butterscotch, and darkleaf green. Kitchen, keep it cheerful, pale yellows, light rust, touch of charcoal, to keep the theme even keel through out the apt. Have fun..

Try getting your ideas down on paper first. Clip pictures out of magazines-and not just interior decorating magazines. Anything with color and shapes. This will narrow down what you both really like and will make your shopping trips easier. Find out what you need and what you like. Take necessary measurements ahead of time. If you are short on cash try thrift stores and craigslist. If you aren't allowed to paint try hanging a tapestry from urban outfitters.

Your best bet would be to get some catalogs.
Some suggestions are..
Ikea
Pottery Barn
Crate & Barrel

You don't have to buy the stuff from there and you'll know what style you like, and you'll know more or less what to look for. You can also find similar items at target and Walmart.
