Because He knew Easu before the foundation of the world, and knew he would be corrupt and evil and reject God, long before he was born.

"for though the twins were not yet born, and had not done anything good or bad, in order that God’s purpose according to His choice might stand, not because of works, but because of Him who calls, 12it was said to her, "The older will serve the younger." 13Just as it is written, "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated," (Rom. 9:11-13, NASB).

We see that God loved Jacob and hated Esau not because of anything that they did, but because of "God's purpose according to His choice," (v. 11). Is this fair for God to do? Yes it is.
First of all, whatever God does is fair. God can do no wrong, so if He loves one and hates another, it is fair. Second, God owes us nothing. He is not obligated to love anyone. He loves out of the freedom of His will and plan, not because of anything in us. He loves because of what is in Him. Third, all people are by nature children of wrath (Eph. 2:3). This means that because we are all fallen and because we are all sinners, the "fair" thing to do is to let us all go to hell. Fairness deals with what is right. Since it is only God who is holy and pure and right, and not us, it is perfectly fair that all of us sinners be judged and condemned by God. But, God does not choose to do that. Instead, He sent His only begotten Son to die for our sins so that we might be saved (John 3:16; 1 Peter 2:24).
So, yes it is fair that God loves one and hates another. It is not fair, however, that God would send His Son to die for us so that we might be saved. That wasn't fair. That was sacrificial love.

Because the Jews at that time needed a mythological explanation for why their twleve tribes were God's chosen and other people on earth had no real rights, but seemed just as good and favored as the Jews themselves.

I'm a Christian, by the way. But I believe this answer makes the best sense out of the story.

It's simply another case of sibling rivaly -- Cain and Abel, Joseph and his brothers. You'll find sibling rivalry and parents who favor one child over another throughout the Bible. Perhaps we are to learn from those stories that leadership is not inherited. In all the surrounding cultures, leaders are kings or gods and everyone else is subservient to them. Why is it that the Israelites are the only ones to choose leaders according to their abilities rather than birth order? Why is it that the best Israelite leaders were those who treated others with justice and respect?

Perhaps we are to learn from these stories that all leaders are human and make mistakes -- we should NEVER make them into gods!

Lion of Judah seems to think that God creates evil. That is in Christianity only -- it didn't come from Judaism. God doesn't create evil, and we don't believe in original sin. We are all created equal -- our actions (choices) determine who we become. Even satan is not evil -- he is nothing more than the accuser, or God's prosecuting attorney. Satan has no powers of his own, if he did, he would also be a god.

You really have to stop relying solely on the KJV.
It was written over 400 years ago.
language changes.
Try the CEV.
Do you like some people more than others?
God too.
He liked both Jacob and Esau, but He liked Jacob more.
He liked Esau less.

Because God is God. He was saying that he knows us even before we are born. (This kindof blows the theory of many Christians that unborns and babies that die go to heaven, doesn't it!) I don't think Easu would have gone to heaven had he died before birth or as a child.

Jacob loved God and Esau hated God. God acts towards us, measure for measure, as we act toward God.

He didn't hate Esau,

I think you're mixing it up with Cain and Abel.

Jacob was the one that usurped the blessing and stole the title of Israel from his brother and God punished him for over 14 years for it!!!!!!!!!!!

Jacob is another name for the Israelites. Esau is another name for the Cananites. God hated the Cananites because of their idolatry.
