Chief:
I expected this. We don't have conscription anymore, so Canada doesn't consider those fleeing from military service to be "political refugees". I believe Mexico will take the same position.

I didn't know that, but I'm glad they did. Fleeing military service is the same as cowardice, and it makes sense that Canada wouldn't want a bunch of American cowards living there. My husband and I are active supporters of the U.S. military through our volunteer work, and we believe that the men and women who serve our country are the best of the best, and they're all heroes to us. Military service is a sacrifice, sometimes the ultimate sacrifice, and trying to avoid serving is disrespectful to all those who have done and are doing their best to protect our country.

Actually CPO I don't think the Supreme Court made the best decision but it's different times in Canada the last couple of years. We have a pm who doesn't seem to put that much stake on human rights anymore , unless they're relegated to his party. And he's pretty much selling us out to be the 51st state eventually or in an Economic Union with Mexico and the US where Canada will get royally screwed. All that lovely fresh water and the oil and gas resources are looking gooooood.

First off, its going back to parliment to be discussed more, if you read the bottom of the article. Secondly, this is for two soldiers that enlisted in the Army, not if theres a draft which is a completely different scenario.
Maybe we shouldn't overgeneralize too much...

Surprising - but then again, would you want the type of people who would flee from military service coming to your neighborhood?
