It was ressurected about two years ago. It bombed. I thought it wiz great. The alternative is mayonnaise, almost the same thing!! Salad cream is way too vinegary...

Good Morning
We never had that offered here, so when I read your question I had to find out about it.
I found two different types of chip sauce served with fish and chips. The first one(recipe below) is easy to find and make, the second one seems to be the secret of Edinburgh =) called Chippie sauce and only available in chip shops; in a plain white plastic bottle. any idea on making it?
Fish and Chip Shop Curry Sauce
1 onion
1 apple, peeled
1 tablespoon curry powder
2 tablespoons oil
2 tablespoons flour
20 ounces water
1 tablespoon tomato puree or tomato paste
pepper
lemon juice
Chop the onion and apple and fry with the curry powder in the oil until tender.
Stir in the flour, cook for 2 minutes and then remove from the heat and add the water, tomato purée, pepper and lemon juice to taste.
Simmer for 15 minutes.
Store refrigerated.

I remember it, mainly because a lot of chip shops these days still sell it :p
Just ask if they have any, a lot of the places don't advertise it
