I was at the bar the other night, & some guy gave me a big lecture-He told me by the looks of my tattoos, I'm a big druggie, & have been to prison, (But I've never been there or jail) then he goes, "I'd be accepted if thrown in prison", then he's saying I'm lucky to be alive cause some would torture me/kill me cause of my tattoos!-anyways what would you say? (I told him straight out, "I knew clean-cut-tattoo free druggies that looked like "missionaries"! (you can't judge a book by it's cover)

I would tell him it's none of his business. It's your body and you can do what you please with it. If you wants to judge you based on tattoo's then that's a reflection on his character. Tell him he is really dating himself by sterotyping tattoos with prisoners and drug addicts. Everyone has tattoos these days.. I know youth pastors who were tattooed head to foot.

everybody is going to run into some whacko sometime or another. and no matter what, there is always going to be someone who judges and stereotypes everybody for something they have or don't have.
my tattoos are often visible and i have never had anybody lecture me like that, i think in general if people don't like my tattoos they just keep their mouth shut. but if i had been at a bar and that happened to me... one of my many heavily tattooed guy friends would have definitely set that guy straight.
really the thing that would have gotten to that guy severely would probably have been if you'd just smiled and said "you're absolutely right, have a wonderful night... God bless you"
and just walked away.

I used to let them show, Upper right arm and left ankle. I designed them and was proud of them. But I also had them placed so as to be easily hidden. Now no one sees them because I am Muslim. No one has ever bothered me about them. Instead it attracts subtle interest because my dress and so on would never have people consider me a "freak". It is amazing what people have going on under neath their clothes LOL. My daughter had a job for 7 years at KFC before they noticed her pierced tongue. And she was management by then. She had it when she was hired. They kept her although she was sent nasty letters but good employees are hard to find and she stayed. Then she left to pursue her Masters. LOL when she was after me for a tat, at 14, she would say "I promise to uphold only the best taste Mummy. I will put it so that if I want to show it off I can, but if I have dinner with a king, it can be hidden." She got a gorgeous arm band when she was 17. Here some people have to wear bandages to cover piercings, other companies are fine. They make a statement by using bright noticeable bandages, in neon. Nose rings, everyone and her uncle has a pierced nose. BTW in some countries a pierced nose is a message that you are married. In some places it is a sign you are a slave. I was asked where my owner was once in the Middle East. A few hours later, due to intense heat, my nose stud fell out and I could not see for perspiration, where it landed. I left it and never replaced it. My other piercings stay right where they are!

I have several visible tattoos and I am a married accountant that worked for a Fortune 500 company. I do not use drugs, I don't drink, and I have never been arrested or been to jail. Next time someone tries telling you that, tell them, "You know what happens when people assume..."

You almost have to feel bad for them being so close minded... ALMOST.

Well, first of all I hate when people cannot open their minds to something that they aren't relative to. People get tattoos. Why, for remembrance, for phobias, for love, for statments, for who you are. All tattoos have a meaning and I am glad to say that people should not judge that at all. People should accept others, I have one tattoo. And I am very proud of it, others don't like it so much, but it's my body and its what I want. Not anyone elses!

Do you have a question? Having visible tattoos is gonna make you a target for small minded people. But does it really bother you what some drunk you didn't even know had to say about you? He was prolly the type who likes to pick fights, and thought maybe you'd be quick to fight him.

Don't let people like that get to you. There is no reply that you can give them that will "put them in their place." I've had some similar comments about my tattoos and I've had compliments. Just be careful in choosing your company and politely ignore those who are ignorant and/or rude.

He sounds like a real smart one. Don't listen to him. I would have just said "ya ok" and turned away. Whenever people try to critisize me about my visible tattoo (a buddhist mantra on the inside of my wrist) I say "is this your wrist? is this your body? no. so keep your thoughts to yourself because i don't care".

You will always be judged upon your tattoos. I know alotve clean but people, but they have some tattoos and automatically get looked at diffrently. Its annoying but its our worlds reality, an unfair one at that.
