The deepest sleep is when you experience no dreams at all, so when you dream you are not getting the best possible rest because your mind is still active on some level.

When sleep is uninterrupted, people only remember the dream they were having just prior to waking up.

When sleep is interrupted multiple times, people remember the dream they were having just prior to each of those awakenings.

So when we say we dreamed all night, what we really mean is that we woke up multiple times during the night and so we remember a lot of our dreams. We feel miserable the next day because all of those interruptions in sleep mean that we're not well rested for the next day.

Sometimes this happens because of physical illness, sometimes because of stress, sometimes because of less than ideal sleeping conditions (e.g. noise or light or too hot or cold), sometimes because we took caffeine too close to bedtime, and sometimes for no reason whatsoever.

Generally, however, the body makes up the lost sleep on subsequent nights and does well.

I know exactly how you feel, I dream all night and when its time for me to get up in the morning, it feels like I've been on the move all night, its exhausting. I have stuff on my mind so I'm thinking thats one of my problems......
