The accusation has been made. I know I haven't, and don't know anyone who has. More atheist conspiracy?

I'm petitioning for a MacMas... but that's in July- I'd never eradicate an opportunity for an entire week off of work (paid holiday).

I'm lovin' it.

Nope, I have never tried to eradicate christmas. The only thing atheists have tried to do is remove government sponsored displays of religion, like nativity scenes on government property. Personally, I give to the Salvation Army whenever I see their red kettles and donate a few toys to Toys for Tots and another local toy drive at christmas time. I find it hilarious when the christians cry out that they are being oppressed when stores decide to label things holiday, rather than christmas, in an effort to appeal to a wider audience. There are a lot of other cults that don't celebrate christmas, most atheists I know put up a christmas tree every year, but evergreens are from the pagan holiday, the feast of saturnalia, and have nothing to do with the christian fairy tale of Jesus.

I am not aware of any atheist trying to eradicate Christmas only all that Christmas stands for and all terminology associated with Traditional Christmas. This question feels like manipulation of the facts to advocate strife

I rather enjoy Christmas and would be highly unlikely to attempt to eradicate it.

There is the idea, set forth in Eric Hoffer's "The True Believer," that people who zealously believe in a particular sect or cause tend to have a need to feel as if there is some vast conspiracy trying to oppress them and the sect or cause to which they adhere. I think this is more the situation than any actual attempt on anyone's part to "eradicate Christmas."

No, in fact I love Christmas. I think Christmas eradication is more of a liberal thing than an Atheist thing.

Nah! I just ignore and enjoy the time off work. Though I identify as an Atheist, I am fond of Pagans and sometimes make Solstice cards for my friends and family.

Why should they stop with X mas? What about eradicating much older religions with billions of adherents?
This is rank discrimination. As a Hindu I demand equal rights for eradication.

I like Christmas. It's a commercial holiday now, anyways. Only churches celebrate it as a holy day. But the presents, cookies, friends and families. Cool stuff.

But I'd rather have a Festivus pole.

I really like Christmas.

The fundies have church/state separation anxiety regarding promoting the religious aspects of Christmas on government territory, and so they like to yell that there is a war on Christmas, when there is in fact none. Just keep your baby Jesi and your 10 commandments out of the court buildings.

No.

I like Christmas, actually. I like looking at Christmas decorations. I don't even mind, personally, if they put a manger in the public square, as long as all religions are allowed the same courtesy on their holidays, and it's not offensive, and the people putting it up don't harass people.

Ha. Isn't it funny how things are twisted.

I've been pulling down Christmas lights, hacking up little trees for my firewood, stealing those snow blowin' blow up globes in front yards, buying up all the egg nog in stores and dumping it in my sink........ :)

Seriously I would imagine that a VERY high percentage of Atheists celebrate Christmas in their own way. I love Christmas time.
