Many people claim that God created life on Earth. All you would have to do to disprove this is show that life arose from inanimate matter in a sterile environment with no outside interference or manipulation. Why is that so hard to do? Perhaps because it has already been proven that it is impossible, and yet life exists strongly indicating that it must be a miracle?

Abiogenesis? Really??? Can you show me then where life has been made in a lab from inanimate matter? I have reviewed much of the research and can tell you that it has never been done, at least as of this week anyway.

Ok Captain Cod. You can have a head start and perhaps eliminate a few million years claimed to be necessary in the formation of life by starting with amino acids. By the way, in the Urey-Miller experiment for example, only two amino acids were produced along with other chemicals toxic to life. Nice try though.

DarwinFriend - I am not confused. I believe that God exists because life exists on Earth. You believe that life could not have been created by God because God doesn't exist (which is a circular argument). The proof of the Creator is the creation. Is that too simple for you?

yes, systems that are dependent on each other for combined function are too complex to evolve on their own. It is much more complex than having the parts of a 747 in a heap and expecting a windstorm to blow up and assemble them. Chance in these circumstances doesn't even come into play.

People cite the deal where scientists "created" amino acids .... there is a HUGE chain of events between that and a self supporting, self replicating cell.... and even then, the conditions for it's survival have a time window.... say for example that there are ten things that have to occur in order for it to get to the cellular level.... put ten coins in your pocket, each numbered one thru ten. The odds of pulling them out of your pocket in numerical order is 1,000,000,000 to ONE. Science will say that's how it happened... Hey, since there is no God, that's how it HAD to happen, right? Gimme a friggin break. The initial presumption that there is no God, leads to some pretty ridiculous assumptions.... Scientifically speaking of course. Can someone hand me Occam's Razor please?

We have explained with pretty good certainty how we and the other residents of this planet came into existence. The overwhelming evidence supports natural selection and evolution.1 If you doubt it you can watch a colony of bacteria evolve over many generations in a few days, or fruit flies in a few months.2 We have also reproduced the basic situation where normal matter became the building blocks of life. This story conflicts with the literal interpretations of every religion, from Greek gods (who still worships Zeus or Dionysus?) to hinduism (is our planet really 4 elephants standing on a turtle swimming through space?) to Christianity/Islam/Scientology. This is disappointing for many people because religion gives us such a great feeling (a reason to be alive, denial of/sanctuary from death, solidarity with a group and against other groups, etc.) But, possibly because we evolved a use for it, religion is wired into our brains and behavior.3 And hey, it feels great. But believing in an outdated story will just cause confusion. Science is also a belief system, and if it works well, some parts are dis-proven, and continually improved. But people's careers get involved and a few people have trouble letting go.

This is not to say God (or whatever you want to call it; Vishnu, The Force, Wankantanka-Great Mystery) didn't create life, or isn't involved in life or keeping together the subatomic particles and laws of the universe that make our lives possible. We can't prove it doesn't exist. However we can't disprove the existence of Gremlins, either. We have no data on the subject, just data to disprove the stories that people have difficulty believing anyway. In the 13th century a big guy on a chair in the clouds would have been pretty plausible. If you think there is some god in your life, then hey, maybe there is. At this point in history we have more light than ever before, but this is still minuscule compared to what exists. If you don't bash on other people to feel better about your beliefs, or go to war to prove your way to eternal peace, good for you. This life only lasts so long and you should be happy while it lasts.

Logical error my friend. It has not been proven impossible-it simply has not been done yet. Why is it so hard to do. Nature had several billion years of bombarding the basic building blocks of life with cosmic rays to come up with the proper permutation that was self replicating. Consider and event which is one permutation in 10^50 possibilities. Since there are 10^23 molecules in rougly a pound of an amino acid (avagadros number) In 10^9 years (billion) it would require 10^18 cosmic ray events in that time period. Like God with statistics all is possible given enough time and enough random events. So the reason life has not yet been created in the laboratory is that the experiment needs to run anotherr half million years or so.

Actually, amino acids have been created from nothing more than base chemicals and lightning, it was done back in the 1920's.

To the asker:

I think my answer fulfilled the requirements of your question, which was show that life arose from inanimate matter in a sterile environment with no outside interference or manipulation.

How would bible authors describe our common objects like computers, tv, matches, airplanes, cell phones, if they were to see them? Probably by calling it magic or miracle. One day science will figure out more, and bible thumpers will continue to have to attempt to discredit it to maintain their beliefs.

Nothing is more circular than creation being evidence for a creator.

As most have said, no one can answer this question while we are alive. After death each of us will find that answer. Until that final day I will remain agnostic, but almost Atheist. Being raised in the church I can't quite let go of the idea that there might be something after death. I can't imagine a life loop unless it is reincarnation, but there still must be a beginning some place even with that. If you die before I do, give me a shout from wherever you go, if you do go someplace, that is.

come on now, B 4real. When have you ever witnessed any intelligent or any type of life form just come to existence out of thin air? Never because it doesnt happen. everything created has to have some type of willing effort behind it. any and everything. like a house or a car, or even humans and animals. thats the natural order of things, in order for someone or something to exist it has to be created by someone. GOD created the whole concept of creation, so GOD has always been, even though our minds dont have the capacity to comprehend with that concept.

Nope, it has not been proven impossible, rather all research done so far indicates that it is possible.

On the other hand, given that there is an overwhelming amount of evidence that evolution occurs, and continues to occur, the biblical account of creation is totally in error. The same can be said for the Flood and the Exodus. No evidence that they occurred and quite a bit that they did not.

There were once these magical people known as Miller and Urey, who created life from inanimate matter. But that was with a magical thing called science. So we know it is impossible.

no one knows how life originated and we never will. i use to think about this all the time when i was younger for quite a few years and i finally quit wasting my time. im not any closer today than i was five years ago. i don't believe you have to live a certian way. just live the best you can and that will put you where you want to be in death
