long distance is very tricky. I have the same problem with my girl friend. Maybe he's really feeling awkward about talking or he has a language or communication barrier.

Maybe he feels like he can say what he really feels without being interupted(not saying you will). Some people can express themselves better by writing or typing it out instead of speaking. Reason being may be that he has a hard time trying to put the words together correctly to actually say what it is he has to say without it being misinterpreted in another way. Me personally i text alot just because its easier and quicker and you don't have to have that long pause on the phone when no one is saying anything. But maybe he is a more face to face kind of speaker rather than over phone. He will text while not around you but probably likes talkin' to you in person.

He had become addicted to the texting craze, which I try to stay far away from. Here is what I think though, texting is like instant messaging for some reason you feel more relaxed to say how you feel about someone when you are writing it whether it be via email or through a hand written letter. Like I am sure you have or have known someone who has broke up with someone or told them they liked them through a letter. It is his way of avoiding saying the wrong words. Now I am assuming he is texting you constantly, if not then you need to speak up. The first step to a good relationship is communication so you need to tell him that you don't care if he stumbles around his words or leaves you with many empty silences, that you like him just the way he is. Boost his ego and call him every now and then to tell him about your day, make him comfortable with it don't wait for him to decide to call you. Hope I helped :)

I had a guy do this once. He did call, but more than usual, instead of just calling and getting the conversation over with (it wouldn't have lasted more than 5 mintues on the phone) he wanted to drag it out through texting. In the end, it turned out, all the times he would text instead of call, was because he was with the girl that he was cheating on me with.

If you want to break your boyfriend of this habbit, tell him the next time he texts you, "Just call me when you're not busy becuase I'm not going to have an entire conversation with you through text."

He prob hates the phone. My husband and I will text message people rather then calling. Its easier and we can do it as we are taking care of other things. I text my mom and husband while at work so I dont have to keep hanging up when customers come in.

Maybe he is a cheap skate and doesnt want to pay for a phone call. Or maybe he just likes speaking in person better. Sounds more like he is just cheap though. Especially if he will talk to you on the phone if you call him!!

Texting is alot less personal. I would rather text than talk. You can put off answering a text, not so easy to do that while talking on the phone.

he could have obnoxious friends in the background. that could be one, or he hates talking on the phone. Maybe you like to talk on the phone too much? It could be a bunch of reasons.

do you know where he is and who he's with?
does he talk on the cell usually?
how does he use his phone when you are around him?
does he answer your calls?

pay attention to his behavior and try to figure it out for yourself.
good luck, hope it's nothing bad.

Maybe he is short on cash but honestly I would trust a guy who wouldn't want to speak to me over the phone coz it might be an indication that he prefers not to be too involved at present OR he is not ready to discuss certain issues that might arise during your over the phone conversations!! Like I said... Maybe!

Some people just don't like talking on the phone. I for one, would rather text than talk on the phone. when you are on the phone you can't do anything but talk but when you text you can do chores or homework or whatever you want.
