both my kids have insurance but for me and my fiancee, we do not..he owns his own business and for private insurance for us, it absouletely ridiciolous priced. We are still searching for a good policy cause i am 35 yrs old with a bad back from the birth of my 1st child but who knows, if we will find one we can afford. It's sad that the insurance is so expensive!!! I do not know anything about CHIP as we live in florida. Here's a star, great question that needs answering!!!

There is alot of people in the world without health insurance, and thats why there is medicaid and some are not even eligable for that,I found a health insurance that is 5 dollars a month its called American life and its a blessing not having health insurance you just get in debt thats why its important to take care of yourself and eat right so you do not get sick, and no sweetie I have not tryed chips.

My husband has health insurance through his work, but only on him. It is way too expensive to put the whole family on it. My 3 children (two from a previous marriage) are on medicaid and I don't have any kind of insurance. We go to a doctor's office that is state funded and I get a discount because of what my husband makes a year. I can go to the doctor and get prescriptions cheaper than my husband can with his insurance. But, if I ever needed to go to the hospital for any kind of reason, we would be hurting.

RE Does anyone NOT have health insurance?
How did it work for you to not have health insurance?
Money is really tight these days and my husband and I are going to stop our insurance. But we are going to put our daughter who is almost 2 on CHIP. (Children's Health Insurance in Pennsylvania).
So my question is for parents.. What are the pros and cons of not having health insurance for yourselves?
and has anyone used CHIP and did you like it?
Thanks everyone!

My husband and I have a 2 year old and none of us have insurance. We were on Medicaid for awhile and then they took us off of it because my husband made too much.. which he really doesnt. There's not really any pros except for the fact that you are saving lots of money. If your daughter can get on medicaid then that's a pro because it's free. There are alot of cons.....like if you wanna get pregnant and dont have any insurance what do you do?? But other than that good question.

What pros? I've gone years 3 years without health insurance because I can't afford even the most basic plan, and I can't get Medicaid through the state of Ohio because I "make too much money to qualify". 3 years of no dentist, no optometrist, no OB-GYN for my high-risk cancer screenings, no physician, no prescriptions (which would have been nice when I had pneumonia for a month last year), nothing. It sucks nuts.

I don't have health insurance because I do not need it. If i get into an accident, I'll send them a litle every month, or apply for emergency assistance. I don't see doctors, I find it to be a waste of my time about 99% of the time. Insurance is a scam IMO. They don't cover the services I use. We don't do western medicine (unless warranted) either.

I know it seems like dropping health insurance is a good financial move, because it will free some money each month, but it isn't. You need to protect yourself against a health disaster. One car wreck could leave you with over 100k in medical bills! I have a cousin who was unaware that he was diabetic, slipped into a diabetic coma and nearly died. This incident cost him 60,000! You could switch to a cheaper policy, but please don't drop- you could wind up homeless- I'm not kidding!

I don't have it...I paid for it for years and never used it, then I left my job and now don't have it...I got sick 4 years ago and ended up in the hospital...$26,000 later, I filed for bankruptcy because I could never pay it...
My granddaughter is on Medicaid, she has the best doctors...myself,,I might try it should I become ill..I don't know except you don't have a premium bill, if there are any pros to not having insurance..
