Hmmm I don't suppose you have ever seen an ancient map of Kingdoms before modern day Israel boundries (the time of Ezekial). Or even the original partition map of 1947. Perhaps you need some geography and history of the Middle East.
Here is a map of the ancient kingdoms (about 800 BCE) as depicted from archeology finds. I would study it if I were you http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Levant_830.svg
For a modern day in the midst of what I suggest you study this http://map.vbgood.com/Iraq/middle_east%20map.jpg
vocabulary lesson for the day:
midst (mĭdst, mĭtst)
n.
The middle position or part; the center
A position of proximity to other
The condition of being surrounded or beset by something
prep.
Among; amid.
EDIT: In response to your Remedial Math question "sling" at me. I will remind you ad personam is a formal fallacy and completely irrelevant.

Your question sets you at the threshold of truth, yet you do not see it.
Jesus represented truth in the symbolic form, as was intended as all of the "bible" was of symbolic nature. As Jesus cured the blind man many see it as Literal, when it was actualy a symbolism for the Truth allowing the Spritualy blind to see.
You see, the Church got it all wrong as it did not suit their political agenda's to view sprituality's language in a symbolic manner, so, they taught events as "literal" and this is what you have learned, it so appears.
Jerusalem was symbolism for mankinds conscious awarness of all things, including God and mankinds Origins.
Having Jerusalem "set amidst the nations and countries around her" is symbolic of mankinds consciousness of self and so on as being surrounded by influences of man made distractions; the Church being one of them as the Church was man made.
Consider Revelation, most all think it as the End of the world but it is not, it is a new Beggining as all the script is Symbolic of changes to come, good ones.
Within Revelation was see "New jerusalem" mentioned and this is about mankinds Sprituality Awakend; with that awakening, mankind is made aware of thier place within the Universe as it is clear we are not a physical being but a spiritual one within the physical body.
Symbolicaly, the bible is fairly easy to understand.

If you examine the land masses as a whole, Jerusalem is in the center.
Seems you need remedial geography.

One of the dictionary definitions ...
"in our, your, or their midst, in the midst of or among us (you, them): To think there was a spy in our midst!"
So yes, Jerusalem was "among" the nations.
You can say you've been among or around your friends without being literally in the middle of a circle of them can't you?
