My Son is stationed in Germany,He is in the Air Force. He has been there for over 31/2 yrs and only come home once a year ago.He was about to come home next month for Christmas. We were just told he will be deployed within the next two days and he can't even say where or how long.As long as they are needed, the Armed Services will continue to sent and keep them out there. He knew the job was dangerous will he took it.I am so proud of him and his sacrifices he makes for all of us.I pray he will come home soon and whole.Liberals don't care about the price these solders pay , they are just screaming to hear them self's.Our freedoms were not paid ed in money , but in the blood and sweat of these patriots.

We need those bases. We kept bases in Germany due to the cold war. They still serve as a good staging area, as well as great medical stop for our injured troops. The troops in Japan and Korea are there because of N.Korea and China. They would be very vulnerable if we left. The economic impact on these areas would be catastrophic if we shut down and came home.
European, The U.N and other countries keep calling for the U.S to send troops for this or that, look at Bosnia. If we picked up our toys and came home, who would do the dirty work. Who would help secure U.N policy or stabalize a region. If the Germans or British, Swedes can do it, why are we called upon?

Those are permanent bases. We have troop there all the time regardless of whether there is a war or not. We have troop stationed all over the world. Most happen to be in Iraq. A better question would have referenced Afghanistan since Afghanistan gets no attention and is a hot spot.

I never realized people had no clue. Think how hard it would be for the US to have a war with a country and fly our planes from the US to the battlefield. The pilots would be asleep before they got their. It is called strategy. Do you think some countries will mess with us knowing we are right next door? That's the deterrent part. Yes it costs the Government soooo much money, but then again do you think the military is sitting around with their thumbs up their a$$? They are already facing many problems from drawdowns to low morale. To sum it up do we need soldiers in Germany? Only as long as the treat for a war exist, yes we do!

All the other countries mentioned have invited us to be there and don't want us to leave. That's the big difference. Whether we should continue on this status is another question. But I believe the main reason we keep troops all over the world is because we want a close platform to launch attacks from when necessary. With the current administration's attitude to "necessary", I no longer consider this a safe policy.

Come on! We don't have troops in Germany to "protect Germany". We have them there for the ease of manuvering whereever we want to go. Have you heard of such a thing as strategy?

And no, we aren't an empire. They're just there, they aren't running the show in those countries where we have those bases.

Can we tell I grew up in a military family?

The troops stationed in Germany are even more pointless and a waste of time and money - Germany can defend itself, it's not like Russia is snarling at the door any more. The difference is the troops in Germany aren't getting shot at every day, so there is much less a sense of urgency.

Are you nuts? Germany is one of the best assignments in the US military. US tax payers provide for an all expense paid European vacation that can last for years. Fun, Travel and Adventure (FTA) :-) Also, without foreign assignments we would have more stay at home jack asses that no nothing of other countries and fail to appreciate America.
