Hello,

I recently made another post about using Qtips in my ears. I know the inside of ears are damaged because sometimes I get a small amount of blood. I feel I have caused an infection and maybe it led to my brain. Its been this way for 6 months now.

My question is this... If i gave myself a brain infection 6 months ago without treatment, could I still be alive? How long can someone live with a brain infection? For the past 2 months ive been having a lot of dizziness and headaches. Is it too late for me? Am i a dead man? How long can I have a brain infection for without it killing me or being too late?

Thanks,
Adam

no, no infection in your brain ... if you are dizzy, though, you may have caused inflamation in your inner ear which is where part of your balance/equilibrium is regulated ... go see a dr and figure out if it is irritation or infection in your ears ... start being more careful with the stupid q-tips, too ...

I'm presuming you're talking about a bacterial infection of the brain as that's the only sort of infection that would move from the ear to the brain.

An untreated bacterial infection of the brain ought to kill you in less than a week. Those are quite severe infections and they move quickly.

That being said, you can't get this sort of thing from Q-tips. For one thing, there's an awful lot of stuff between the eardrum and the brain - and one of those things is the skull.
For another, Q-tips don't cause infections. The reason the ENT's ask us not to use Q-tips is because they can rupture the eardrum and also because they can pack wax into the ear canal and cause a wax impaction which can reduce hearing, cause headaches and dizziness, etc.

I would suggest the following,
1. Stop the Q-tips.
2. Have a doctor look in your ears to see if you have a wax impaction. If so, simple irrigation of the ears with warm water can dislodge the wax and may help with the headaches and dizziness.
3. Also chat with the doctor about your worries. You strike me as a fellow who worries far too much and treatment for this may help your quality of life tremendously - lots of unnecessary worry (and worrying about brain infections from Q-tips certainly counts!) can be exhausting and can sap a lot of energy you could be spending on other projects or hobbies.

Good luck to you!

It is very unlikely that an infection traveled from your ear to your brain. If you really did have a brain infection, you would not be walking around with minor symptoms - you would be in the hospital, very seriously ill. You probably have an ear infection, which is causing the dizziness and the headaches (balance is greatly affected by the inner ear).

However, all infections can lead to complications (example: ear infections can cause hearing loss). You should go to the doctor and get an antibiotic - both for your health and your peace of mind.

Qtips causing a brain infection... Interesting... Sounds to me like you have damaged the inside of your ears from excessive use of QTIPS, and at the same time are having dizziness and headaches from this little thing called anxiety and hypochondria (thinking you are sick and dying of some disease, even though you aren't)

Go to the doctor so he can perscribe some antibiotics, that should help clear the EAR INFECTION up.

Good luck mate :)

Adam, I love your name btw, you are acting a bit irrational my dear. Go to the doctor and see whats up. Please don't rely on yahoo answers if you think you're life is in jeopardy. Why are you waiting so long? Ive never heard of anything being reffered to as a "brain infection" so please go check that out.
