well i love china because she has a mixture of historical, natural and modern beauty. take the city i used to live in, Chengdu, as an example. in the downtown area, it's no difference with any other developed city, u can find shopping malls with branded stuff and latest fashion, french style cafe, latest movies and all that. however, among these sky-scapers, you may also spot an ancient temple with thousands of history, or artists playing traditional chinese instruments on the street. then if you'd like to drive for less than hour, you'll actually be at some culture heritage, u know those mountains, water-falls n small towns with buildings and traditions that remain unchanged for hundreds of years.

I have been to china several times but it was more than 10 years ago. There are things that fascinated me and of course there are some which are not. No one country is perfect and I normally seek for more info before I get totally dislike/hate "anything" (or I would be called ignorant).
Like what the answerer above me, Kingston aka Mr Kiasu, typical Singaporean has forgotten where his ancestor came from and from his ungratittuteness, he is even worst than China (against all the points made by him). To him Singaporeans could queue up 2/3 hours for a free hand carrybag give out by mastercard and is still ok! Or 4 hours and crashed Mac donald front glass door to get the hello kitty doll is ok to them!
Oh back to the Q, things I am fascinated are the historical sites ie Great Wall, Forbidden City etc etc that really tells me this is where my root is and it is for really and not a legend or myth. Besides this, invention of gun powder, best ship, confucian, paper, money, compass many many others ...which made me proud as a Chinese. This is also part of the reasons why so many foreigners hate chinese.
I always believe if all Chinese are united and is a conquerer, I think half the world now belongs to china.
Nevertheless, there are thing I hate about China. Because of corruption during fuedal period and "mismanagement" of some dynasty or those in political arena made China Chinese, weak, "united" and poor. The rich getting richer and because of the huge population, the whole country wreck due to too many poor which resulted and indirectly linked to some unscrupulous behaviour of some dishonest chinese till nowaday. And after going thru so many civil wars, opium war and thru the Mao's period, China is lucky to have Mr Deng to open up China and now gradually changing it o another era instead of communism. I also believe at that time, Communist is the best option for China.
p/s Hey Mr Kingston, your PAP is also another Dictator despite "Democrazy" as you thought! Try to talk against your PAP at People Park speaker corner..you end up in jail like Mr Chee!

Again, a question I am not qualified to answer. I am answering, though, because there is a point to make. I have known quite a few Chinese people. I used to teach English as a Second Language. I even had Chinese girlfriends in my past. Long before I taught -- I've known Chinese people since I was 8, so I can't say 'long before I knew Chinese people' -- China had an allure for me. The more Chinese I meet, the more I learn, the more I want to go there. What I like most, the people I've known. What a vast, bottomless culture and how it produces people who are MOST interesting. I had to say it -- one guy who hasn't been there attracted by the people and the culture.

a million. each and every person speaks a minimum of two "languages" in China. i'm from Hubei Province, China, I talk my community dialect and Mandarin. There are hundreds, actually, of dialects in China, people from this section frequently have hassle information people from that section (in the event that they at the instant are not talking Mandarin). that's why we've subtitles in movies, television shows, or maybe information courses. We talk distinctive languages yet we use the comparable writing gadget, so whether we don't comprehend what's been pronounced on television we will nevertheless be waiting to examine the subtitles. Pinyin isn't a language in line with se. To make it much less complicated for you, you have phonetic symbols for English words, we've pinyin for chinese language characters. If we do not know the thank you to pronounce a definite character, we glance it up in a dictionary for that's pinyin. 2. No, you will not. Cantonese feels like Greek to maximum Mandarin audio gadget. Many Cantonese audio gadget, however, extraordinarily celebrities, talk desirable Mandarin by using fact they spent years gaining information of it with the intention to earnings from the rich mainlanders. 3. sure. There are a pair of million billion Mandarin audio gadget in China while Cantonese is merely spoken in Guangdong Province and Hong Kong. 4. ninety p.c. of chinese language talk and comprehend Mandarin. 5. As I pronounced, i'm from Hubei, China. I talk Mandarin and English. i've got been observing Hong Kong dramas so i'm form of getting used to Cantonese.

I wouldn't know where to begin. I simply love this country, but if I had to chose one thing that really stands out of the rest, it's the people I have met over my travels there who have become part of my own family. Of course, China is far from being the perfect country, there are environmental issues, human rights issues, poverty, corruption, etc. But the country is changing, for the better, at an amazing pace.

Oh boy...I am not sure where to begin. I live in China. I chose to live here because of the simplicity of life. Contrary to most beliefs, the people are very receptive and courteous about Americans. One thing that really impresses me is the family ties...the loyalty and devotion to each other. Their lives aren't built around the almighty dollar, but it is built around the family.
I could go on and on, but simply put, I am here because of the people, the customs and traditions. This history of a 4000 year old civilization is absolutely fascinating.

I love China because of the people, the culture, strong families ties, the food, the buildings, the beautiful places. I came from Singapore 8 yrs ago and currently living in beijing. I fell in love here because all the people are so willing to help and they have great sense of humour. They love to always argue over who to pay the bill. haha. Sincere and generous people. When i just got here, the people(neighbours, Bosses, colleague always invite me over for dinner, as they know it's not easy for a young lady to be at another country all alone.
I think the family ties are really great here. they don't just go back to see their parents when it's festival, they see almost every night and have dinner with them. normally the in-laws are very good friends. They normally buy houses near to their parents too. (i observed these from my friends and my beijing husband too)
The food is obsolutely fantastic with good service waiters. My favourites are got to be beijing zha jing mian, xiao long bao, beijing roast duck, jiao zi, dim sim. talking about this make my mouth water. haha.
And rarely do you see ignorant yet 'i know it all' like Mr Kingston who claim to know alot about China. come on try talking bad things abt government in Singapore you will be thrown into jail the nx day. Go check it out if you don't know. As i grew up in singapore, all television shows is negative things abt china and how perfect is singapore. This is how people like mr kingston 'know' about china. Small minority people in S'pore like Mr kingston is this ignorant tho, most of us are quite inform abt china today. :)
hope this ans you! :)
