I could be depressed enough to slash my wrists but then I hear a song that can bring me out of it. Usually it's a pretty nasty blues guitar riff but it doesn't have to be, it could just be a really inspired piece of music or the beauty of someone's voice and I can feel like my whole day is turned around for the better. Is it possible that music can release endorphins? Does anyone else feel this way?

Sidewalk-it's a rhetorical question. I have a busy life and there's usually a lot going on, both good and bad. If I were going to slash my wrists for real, I would've done it by now. But thanks for your concern : )

Right on, Another cool question from Pink ! As a musician I can definitely testify to the therapeutic power of music. I play bass in a blues band & percussion for an African drum troop & I've seen music do some amazing things. When we lay down a beat and watch it make peoples feet move, it's the best feeling. We've played at a few at risk public schools for special ed. classes & it's truely amazing to see what music can do for children with disabillities. The first time I witnessed kids in wheelchairs dancing to my beat, I even got a little misty.
The japanese believe that the spirit of the drum is actually a resounding echo, rooted to the sound of a mothers heartbeat that a child hears in the womb. Music is a universal language that everyone can understand & benifiet from.

Music soothes the soul and stirs the spirit.
Some of my favorite songs are those that provide inspiration when I'm going through trials and tribulations in my life (and, believe me, the stuff that's going on in my life right now requires a lot of inspirational music!). I especially enjoy songs like:
"The Rose"
"I Hope You Dance"
"Hero"
"We Didn't Start the Fire"
"Somethin' Stupid"
"When I Was Seventeen"
"Coward of the County"
"Bo Jangles"
"Luck Be A Lady Tonight"
"Piano Man"
"Lady"
But that's just a really quick rundown. I love all kinds of music (except hard acid rock and rap) - and if there's a jukebox in the bar, there's a good possibility I'm gonna' feed it a fiver and let the music soothe me! -RKO- 11/15/07

Couldn't agree more. Yes, it does involve endorphins and music is being used in cancer and hospice for that positive result. Good question and you put some thought into it.
I can have the worst day ever, and turn on my music to melt it all away. Sometimes when the stress is high I sing too. And that helps so much too.

I believe you frightened sidewalk.
Music, unlike politics, is one of the great benefits of modern man's neocortex.
Sometimes when I hear the right song sung by an exceptional voice like S. Dion, L. Ronstadt, Anne Murray, Aaron Neville, Andrea Bocelli or Russell Watson I can actually get tears in me eyes by the combination of exceptional music and voice.
I believe that humans the world over pretty much want to make some kind of music; we are driven to war because of incompetent "leaders".

I agree, I hope that I am not at the point that I am willing to slash my wrists. Geez what's on your mind today.
Edit: LOL I know it's rhetorical. What you can't take a joke? I guess I am in the wrong section for jokes!
