There are a lot of stories of unarmed people being tazed, is it really the right way to handle a person?

No. We are trained how and WHEN to use them.

Well, consider the alternative. If the police are trying to take someone into custody and the person is resisting, the old way was to either beat them into submission with a nightstick or shoot them. The tazer SHOULD be used to avoid these other options. If you are resisting a police officer would you rather be tazered or shot? My question is why people side with people who are resisting arrest. Why dont we give any consideration to the police officer forced into the position of having to subdue a person.

Yes they are. They are only supposed to be used in place of deadly force. And to subdue a violent person who poses a serious threat to others or themselves. But I know of some towns that when the dept first got their tazers They went taze happy! A small bar fight would end up in both parties getting tazed and sometimes bystanders. Very scary. Especially when there have been deaths linked to tazing

A TASER is not deadly force. It is intended to be used to subdue a subject quickly with minimal injury to the suspect and to any officers involved. An unarmed subject who is resisting can still be TASED in many cases.

In these situations, if there was no TASER present, you would have the officers using their batons, pepper spray, and hand/arm/knee striking techniques they take longer (and often more applications) than the TASER... would you rather the police use these things?

Yeah...If thats going to be the new method of bringing in annoying people to the ground then why spend any more money and resources at the academy teaching officers self defense, martial arts, verbal tactics etc etc. Thats a total violation they are doing espcecially if the suspect is unarmed and generally just being annoying versus a person drugged up the butt on PCP's or some really, really large dude on a rampage. They need to re-evaluate their usage and the purpose of it.

"don't taz me bro!!!!"

I laughed my butt off when I seen that guy said that.

Some people have a real listening problem. The officer tells them to get down and they remain standing. So they get tazed.

I think its only fitting. Its better than getting shot in the knee caps :)

I think they are way overdoing it with the tasers. They were originally intended to be used in place of deadly force, but the use has gotten way out of hand.
