OK----I am totally crazy about this woman. She lives quite far away but she has expressed an interest in the great outdoors. I would love to send her a kayak as a Christmas gift, despite the prohibitive cost to ship it. Do you think this gift would make her heart melt?? Any answers would be appreciated.

Does she kayak? There's a big difference between loving the outdoors and kayaking in the outdoors. If she doesn't kayak already you will be wasting your money (not that it matters to you because you must have a lot of it) because she won't use it.

If she doesn't use it then it's not a good gift. Look for something a little smaller. Find out what her exact interest are.

a woman expressing an interest in the great outdoors could mean many things....how on earth did you come up with a kayak? Although I would think it was sweet I guess....but to be a romantic gift you might have to back the gift up with a romantic getaway....otherwise I doubt that a kayak represents romance.

ahhh how big was her interest expressed of the great outdoors ? I mean I love the great outdoors but that doesn't mean I want a Kayak. It means maybe I would like to go for a stroll in the park, maybe even a canoe ride. So no I don't think it sounds very romantic

I have been in a long-distance relationship for 11 years. Sending a gift is not as good as being with the person. I would use some of the money to take her on an outdoor excursion, surprises are wonderful. I love them. As a rule, jewelry, perfume, flowers and candy are romantic gifts. Clothes, furniture, etc., are not. But a surprise getaway is over and above.

It sounds like a nice gift, but just a suggestion. How about attaching a note with the kayak about making plans for the summer for a little get away. Kayaking with her and make a mini vacation for you both. Good luck!

She would probably love it, but maybe instead of shipping it from where you are, try to find a store where she is and order it from there or something. If kayaking is something that she's really into and you've paid enough attention to her to remember that; it will mean alot to her. I've been married for 23 yrs. and the gifts that mean the most are the ones that your partner has figured out on their own, by just knowing who you are.

Slow down there Guy, I Kayak, and its like buying a pair of shoes, you need to try it on. It would be a cool gift but unless you know all the specifics, dont buy it, and depending on how long you have known her, dont buy you might be being used as a sugar daddy, but a gift certificate of a lesser sum to an outdoor gear supply house is always a nice gift.

Sure, if you can afford it, it is a really nice thing to do.
Just as a warning, and I have no idea what your relationship to her is like, I think it is a tough way to START a relationship by trying to win the other over with gifts. If you already have started something, then it is a little more natural.
Only saying this because I have bought expensive gifts for I girl I liked that was not that into me, and it was a waste of money. But if you know there is already a mutual thing going, go for it.

I like it. If you are sure this is something she would really love to do. But order it and have it shipped direct by the company.

I recently ordered a Rumba robot sweeper from Linens and things. First I could use their 20 % off coupon and by ordering IN the store, I paid NO shipping. Quite a little savings.

Check around at sporting goods stores and see if they might do the same thing.

its a great gift, but probably not in the classic romance category. Its also very expensive. Is your relationship at the stage where an expensive gift is appropriate? You don't want to appear to be trying to buy her affection.

Jewelry and flowers are classic romantic gifts, but are also time worn and more traditional than perhaps your lady is.

How about a long weekend in a romantic lodge or cabin in a location near something she would enjoy seeing?
