Say for example, if you did it out of love or simply strong emotions, that may not necessarily be negative... is the act itself still negative? Isn't it the intention that counts? I would like to hear people's perspectives, especially from a spiritual point of view (not religious but spiritual). Thank you x

Religiously it is VERY hard for me to say.

Spiritually -- I understand. When I first started SI, it was out of happiness. It was a bond I had made with another girl and we would carve words on our legs. Later in life, I became depressed and then it was out of mad depression. It was very negative. Sometimes I would cut myself up to 50 times a day.

Now, SI is tricky with me. I only do it when I cry. Thankfully I only cry about once a month. As for whether or not I think it is OK... well, I think you are right about the intention thing. But if you think of it this way -- you are still inflicting harm on yourself. You are still chancing contracting HIV or some other type of deadly infection.

However, if you think about it this way, you should be fine -- many people condemn tattoos and though they are art, it is a form of self infliction (we're paying for it, right?) so what about a person who gets a tattoo of a cross? Is that not spiritual?

It's a rough topic. I think if you know your intentions, you are fine.

The body has been given to us by God for housing the soul or Atman, which is a part of the God.When this housing will deteriorate, the soul will move to another accommodation. Will it be proper for you to inflict any harm/injury to the house of the soul? It amounts to destroying your own house for no reasons. No sane person will do that.

Knowing that self injury is wrong does not overcome the love intended. Doing wrong (or evil) whatever the intended "good" outcome does not create good.

Machiavelli was wrong. The end does not justify the means. Wrong or evil cannot create good or love.
