My grandmother used to say they came from using too much salt, but I think she was just trying to get me to use less salt. But they are annoying, and take a long time to go away. I keep rubbing them against my teeth, especially the broken ones. They are sort of like pimples, but I can't squeeze them. What are they and what can I do to get rid of them and/or prevent new ones from forming?

Yes, I do brush my tongue. I think it makes the spots worse, if anything.

Thanks a lot all of you. I may as well throw it to a vote, since none of you were helpful. (Tongue is not white; just those little pimply-type dots.)

Auntie I don't really have much of an idea what those are but have you tried brushing your tongue gently but more frequently everyday? You may try that and see if it will remove the white dots.

I have heard that having a white tongue is a sign of dehydration. I'm not sure if bumps are a part of it. I have just been told that.
