You can have a commitment ceremony, but not a binding marriage.

Massachusetts recently ruled to not perform marriages for non-Massachusetts residents. Canada would probably be the best at this point since that is the only place you can be legally married, but for now your marriage would not be valid in the U.S. Have you considered a commitment ceremony? That's a non-legally-binding thing you can do anywhere. Many hotels and wedding chapels will perform them for you and may even give you a certificate to commemorate it. Then when marriage becomes legal for all adults (and I believe it will in our lifetimes), you can just go to a justice of the peace or have a renewal of vows to become legally married. Good luck to you and your beau!

Only Massachusetts and Iowa (under review now) allow gay marriages while 9 others - including New Jersey, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Vermont - offer civil unions which grant gay couples the same legal rights as in heterosexual marriages.

Rhode Island and Maine residents are allow to have gay marriages in Massachusetts and waive the residency requierement in Mass.

Congratulations and best of luck!!!!!!

Same sex marriage is legal in Massachusetts, but you can't come here and get married and leave. You must intend to stay here in MA. Also, if you move out of state and into a state that doesn't recognize same-sex marriage, they will NOT recognize your marriage. The same is true if you get married in Canada and then come back to the US. Also, the Federal Goverment will not recognize your marriage, which means you won't get fed. income tax breaks. Best of luck.

Massachusetts is the only place in the US where same-sex marriage is legally recognized by the state. However, you must be a resident of Massachusetts, although this policy may be changing. Also, the federal government will not recognize the marriage, regardless of where it was done.

Other than Canada, go to Massachusetts, New Jersey. Try them. I have a website a friend sent to me, it has a lot of information on it. Hope this helps. Congrats.
