Why do you still celebrate? What spirit is it that keeps you to cling to it??

Jeremiah 10 is where it talks about the tree.

Sure Robert, and its just a stupid Bible. If it "all depends on what you believe" thats great. Clearly you don't believe what the Bible says. Good luck.

The celebration of Christmas may have begun as a pagan holiday (every "Christian" holiday did pretty much) but that doesn't mean Christians shouldn't celebrate it. Christians organized their own celebrations to coincide with pagan celebrations to try to lessen the influence that the pagan holidays had on the the church. Mostly the children. Even if Christmas isn't exactly Jesus's birthday it can still be celebrated on Christmas. Most people I know don't always celebrate their birthday on their actual birthday, they do it when they can. As for the tree, Jeremiah 10 says that making a tree into an idol is bad. You worship idols. Personally I don't know anyone who worships their Christmas tree. It's just decoration

Destructive Criticism: Please don't take verses out of context to suit yourself. Read the stuff around those verses you mentioned. They work for your argument.

Yes, Christmas is a holiday with pagan origins that follows the same traditions as it's pagan ancestors. And although Jeremiah 10 is speaking of a person cutting down a tree and carving it into an idol for worship, there are Bible passages that help discerning Christians to make a decision that pleases God on this. Two that always come to my mind are John 4:24 and 2Corinthians 6:14-16. In those scriptures we are reminded to worship God according to what is true. Christmas is a lie. It is NOT the birthday of Jesus nor do the pagan traditions surrounding it honor him. We are also reminded not to mix true religion with false and that Christ has no fellowship with pagan forms of worship.

I personally do not put up a tree, but Jeremiah is saying:
'Do not be afraid of them,
For they cannot do evil,
Nor can they do any good'.

He also speaks of:
'A wooden idol is a worthless doctrine'.

I do not know of a single person that puts up a Christmas Tree and worships it. A Christmas Tree is not an idol to be worshiped.

Most of us do not have to learn the way of the Gentiles, we were born Gentiles, which only means we are non-Jews.
However when I became a believer I was grafted into the promise that was given to Abraham.

Princess J ... The scarecrow in a melon patch does not exist in all translations. That was added in for the NIV. Look at another version.

David, While what you say is very true...Christ then came to this world to free us from the law not that any man should ignore the law but that a man can by faith be made new and in agreement with God's righteousness, Man is now free to worship God in spirit and in truth and not in traditions of law.
A Christian is free to eat anything and is not bound by traditions of law.
Most Chrisitans understand that Dec. 25th is not the birthday of Christ but is a day that we do celebrate his birth.

LEARN NOT THE WAY OF THE HEATHEN, what part of that is pulling it out of context?? WHO would be pulling it out of context?? WHY would they be pulling it out of context??

BECAUSE THEY ARE PAGANS
That is why they still celebrate it.

IT IS THE SPIRIT OF RELBELLION TO SAY THE LEAST, A SPIRIT OF ERROR, SPIRIT OF PRIDE, SPIRIT OF IDOLATRY, SPIRIT OF THE ADVERSARY, etc. etc.

Do they care??? No! They think they have need of nothing and yet are actually wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked. All the while telling you to stop being SO JUDGMENTAL as they JUDGE YOU for being so judgmental.

Paul said they are "always liars", 'cretians' Titus 1, just another name for 'christian', these two words come into English from the same latin word "christianus".

Trees were worshiped. God said don't worship trees.
Idols were worshiped. God said don't worship idols.
I have a Christmas tree. It looks pretty but I do not fall on my face and worship it.
I have statues in my home but I don't kneel before them.
I worship God.
As long as I don't start worshiping the silver cross I wear around my neck I think I am ok with God.

Absolutely, we should all think just as you do...

It's called family, love and tradition that keeps us celebrating. I would imagine it's much the same with Hanukkah and Passover.

Why come on here to insult? I cannot believe I actually defended you in an earlier post. Alas, it is a mistake I will not make twice.

Well, I was unaware of that topic until you pointed it out, but perhaps you can pull out more than just the part you want to be noticed....

5 Like a scarecrow in a melon patch,
their idols cannot speak;
they must be carried
because they cannot walk.
Do not fear them;
they can do no harm
nor can they do any good."

All I know as a Roman Catholic that Christmas day is celebration of the birth of Our Lord Jesus. Just wondering where have you heard it's a pagan day?
