Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was white as snow and everywhere that Mary went the Lamb was sure to go. He followed her to school each day twasn't even in the rule. He made the children laugh and play to have a lamb at school. And than the rules all changed one day, illegal it became to have the lamb of God at school or even speak his name. Everyday got worse and worse and days turned into years. Instead of hearing children laugh we heard gun shots and tears. What must we do to stop the crime that's in our schools today? Let's let the Lamb come back to school and teach our kids to pray.

The above is a poem I received in an e-mail, you know one of those mass mailings. I just thought it was a wonderful take on the childhood song. Remembering a simplier day in America, when squabbles were solved in principles office, instead of with a gun on the playground. I am thankful that I grew up when I did without all of the pressures of todays youth. What are your thoughts?

Lmao @ guns out of private ownership.

For anyone that knows anything about gun control, you must know that criminals don't care about gun control. Why would a piece of legislation taking the rights of gun ownership away from a law abidding citizen have any ill effect on the criminal element? Simplistic thought makes me giggle....

Also there have been schools in Oregon and California, where students study Islam as a core requirement, passed off as education the kids were even given extra credit for dressing the part. Hmmmm, no screams from the ACLU on that one. However if they were required to perform mock baptism's the school would probably be closed down. There is a double standard in America and it seems that unless you are a Christian you are free to think or worship as you choose without any interference from the ACLU. Whatever happened to Liberty and Justice for all, or does that only apply to the minority?

I would blame the break down of families for the use of guns on school grounds. Violence has ALWAYS been a part of humanity. The difference is that now we have the media to throw it in every ones face.

The poem is cute but so is the original. On the other hand, we use to sing Ring around the Rosey....it's about the Bubonic Plague...

Bringing prayer back into public schools will not solve anything. If your kid wants to pray in school then let them. Otherwise, the more peaceful act is to not enforce your beliefs on others.

If I were you, I would not start rattling on about 'simplistic thought.' Have you not read your own post?

School Prayer Poem

So....lack of prayer in public schools=violence of the worst kind in schools...Great logic..entirely without merit however.
US has an issue with guns (primarily speaking). In Canada, we dont have prayer in public schools (I cant remember even having a debate about it) and our shootings have been rare (I can only recall 2 shootings).
As far as I know, England or France or Netherlands or whichever do not use public school prayers and no, they do not have school shootings as the scale of the US.
There is a problem within the US and you are simply diverting the attention away from the potentially true causes.

In response to: If Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, and Atheists can express their faith, why can't Christians? Christianity is a religion of peace which makes up 74% of this country! Why are we putting up with this?? If we want to pray or wear crosses, we should be allowed!
---
I have seen students wear SYMBOLS of their faith i.e. a scarf, kirpan, cross, yarmulke etc. but not actually seen them praying in school in a classroom. Yes they have designated areas for you to pray and thats where for example, muslim students can offer thier afternoon prayers.
Why is that the Christians want to dominate an entire classrom and rule over that diversity of religions? Why cant they simply make use of the designated rooms like the others?
And no the atheist isnt taking over your school. There is a difference between secularism and atheism. Secularism simply distinguishes religion from state regardless of religious orientation of the person.

My thought is that if your kids go to a school where arguments are settled with a gun, you should move or change their school.
And one bad poem does not make a right.
Unless of course you are willing to have MY G-d and everybody else's in your kid's school. But really, unless you send them to a PRIVATE religious school, school is a place for academics.

My kids pray in school every day. Plus learn theology. It's called private school. People who want their kids to pray in school have that option. Take it, chain e-mails with bad poetry affect nothing.

1. Praying in school is not illegal. Mandating prayer is.
2. Speaking about God, Jesus, or any other deity is not illegal. read the First Ammendment.
3. If you want your children to be taught to pray, do so at home. It's your job to "teach" your children about your beliefs, not the schools.
4. If you're promoting prayer in school, then you certainly wouldn't object to children being taught how to pray to other gods according to other religions, right?
5. Blaming the violence in today's society is a pathetic cop-out. Shall we address the violence in the Crusades or the Holy Roman Inquisition, or how about the Salem Witch Trials, all of which were carried out in the name of your God.

Look at this issue, with an open mind, from both sides of the fence. You may be suprised at what you see.

I think it is a very nice poem, and so true!

By not allowing Christians to express their faith in public schools, our religious freedom is being breached! If Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, and Atheists can express their faith, why can't Christians? Christianity is a religion of peace which makes up 74% of this country! Why are we putting up with this?? If we want to pray or wear crosses, we should be allowed! And if children want to be allowed to pray or to be taught to pray, who are they to say that they can't and can't be?

Lol, if I was in a public school now I would probably be expelled and have a lawsuit, I feel so strongly about this...

I remember when I was in first grade, some friends and I were playing this imaginary game where we would say a prayer everytime we did something in the game...That was so great...We had NO idea how the teachers might have felt if they knew we were doing that, lol.

edit: I forgot to say, this doesn't mean enforce our beliefs on others. You don't want to pray, you don't want to learn how to pray, fine, don't. You don't have to. But frankly, we want to, and it is our right to do so. The lawmakers need to re-read the Constitution.

edit2: And londie is right in that it is not just prayer. There is a whole cultural movement and glorification of this that is absolutely horrific. We can't just fix it by adding prayer to school, but it is one thing which we can do to get things moving in the right direction. Also, I think a ban should be placed on some of these excessively violent video games, which have been scientifically proven to aversely affect these kids.

Yes, those days of segregation, where the football coaches allowed their goons to "pass" every class without showing up, where no brown people were there scoring higher on tests than you.

Take me back to your time, the time that never existed.
