What state are you in?
If it is Minnesota, the landlord will give a CRP (Certificate of Rent Paid) to every adult in the household. Buy law, the rent will be split equally among the adults.
This form along with the income information from your 1040 will be used to calculated the renter's credit.

Any form of "renters credit" is a state credit. To answer your question we would need to know which state you live in.

Are you in the US? These are state programs, not federal, so check on your state website. Since you don't say where you live, nobody can give you an answer as to what you need to do.
