You need to see a doctor immediately. Prolonged bleeding can cause you to become anemic. You could have endometriosis, or could be some other problems. You need an examination right away.

make sure to see a gynecologist asap..but when i had this problem and it was 6 months of bleeding not 3 weeks it was because when you have your period it last until the lining of your uterus has been shed, well if for some reason a piece of the lining doesn't shed you just keep bleeding
if this is your problem the first thing the doctor does is prescribe hormone treatments that usually stop it but if it doesn't then a DNC has to be done

you wont hemmorage if you're only menstruating. chances are you have a lack of the hormone Progesterone, or maybe you have polyps of some sort on your cervix-- which are completely harmless. you should still get to your doctor and see it it's fybroids or polyps before it becomes a bigger problem. Maybe he can putyou on birth control to minimize the bleeding, and start you onsome kind of hormone therapy. :) good luck!
