I have never heard or emphasis ripple marks. Or maybe I know them under another term.

There are current ripple marks, which are asymmetrical in profile. These are formed by water going in the same direction.

There are also wave formed ripple marks which are symmetrical in profile and are formed by water flowing back and forth (like a tide).

You may be thinking about dunes? They can form several shape types. Pehaps barchan dunes, or even transverse or parabolic dunes.
