use a LCD monitor which ensures u a liquid crystal display which does not harm the eye much. use a 19 " LCD to get wider view if its a widescreen. this helps u to keep your eye free from strain.

THE MONITOR SHOULD BE PLACED AT LEAST 50CM FROM YOUR EYES. this information is frm a guide

Monitor Distance

A safe distance - 1 mm.

There is no radiation from the monitor that will damage your eyes. Walking outside without sunglasses will do a lot more damage than looking at a monitor screen.

A comfortable distance - that is something else. around the 50 cm or 20 inch mark should work well, but you should increase the font size of what you are looking at so that it is easy to read and you do not have to squint or hunch forward to read it.

When you stare at a screen you blink less. This will cause your eyes to dry out, especially in an air conditioned office environment. close your eyes every few minutes for a second or two, make sure you are drinking enough fluids. You also tend to sit still in one position for longer than you would normally. Sit back and stretch. Every hour or so get up and move around. Get a drink, go to the bathroom, walk around a bit - whatever. Just get up an move your joints for a minute.

According to the Dell manual, "Set the monitor at a comfortable viewing distance (usually 450 to 610 millimeters [18 to 24 inches] from your eyes). Make sure that the monitor screen is at eye level or slightly lower when you are sitting in front of the monitor.
