Yes, you can put hot water in the freezer when defrosting. Make sure you have a towel on the floor and something to catch the dripping water. Some people use a butter knife to help loosen the ice...this is not such a good idea as you can easily puncture the sides or top and ruin your freezer. Keep changing out the hot water with fresh hot (boiling) water. A blow dryer is quicker but dangerous as you are not supposed to get water and electric mixed! Good Luck.

it will not hurt your refrigerator/freezer to use hot water. my mother always just set pans of boiling water inside the freezer. and she would keep one on the stove one in the freezer.

make sure that when you defrost, that you go ahead and toss out the iffy stuff. and do the same thing in the refrigerator. check the dates on all of the condiments that are taking up space in the refrigerator door.

and good idea to do it before the holidays. what a jump on holiday cleaning.

i have at one time turned off my fridge and placed a bowl of boiling water on the top shelf or inside freezer and closed fridge door.It helpps slightly but you could be there 4 a while gl:)

I have found that it is easier to prop the door open with a chair and put a fan in the chair. It will defrost quickly and you will avoid the handling of boiling water.

don't spead it righ on walls can crack insulation under shell. better to un-plug let it do it natually go to movie in meantime ask a neighbor to store stuff for you!
