i'm having horrible PMS. every month i have to stuff myself with Nurofen & panadol. Sometimes PMS runs for a week, i stuff myself with these pills the whole week, this is not healthy. I have weak physique overall, i rarely have time to exercise or make sure i have enough nutrients.

I don't plan to have kids, so i'm thinking to remove my uterus as a permanent solution to PMS.

I dont know if this is safe to do so (ie. possible consequences that may happen?).

And how expensive is it to have my uterus removed?

Thanks.

to 'gammie': please give me more details. If uterus & ovaries are removed, how is it possible to still have PMS? uterus & ovaries are the place of menstrual cycle, ovulation. If egg disappears, estrogen & progesterone (hormones) are not produced and there won't be any PMS symptoms.

uterus removal or hysterectomy is only a permanent solution to PMS if the ovaries are removed as well. this is because PMS is cased by female sex hormones and these are secreted by the ovaries.

have you tried the contraceptive pill as an alternative?

there are many side effects to such a major operation, these can include:
bleeding
infection
bowel or bladder perforation
loss of libido
and going through the menopause

Personally, I don't feel that is a healthy choice. With careful planning and organization you can include enough nutrients in your diet. But most importantly, I don't think you'll find a doctor who will do this. Most women without children often have a hard time convincing a doctor to give them a tubal ligation, let alone a hysterectomy. Removing an organ from your body always causes changes. By removing the uterus and ovaries you are taking out space fillers first off, and secondly you are removing the organs that are keeping you from going into menopause.

it was for me. My periods were so bad and so was my mood. I just couldn't take it anymore. I have 2 kids and I knew I was done after the second one. I had the surgery and have never felt better in my life. Yea!!!! I am not held back by headaches, stomch cramps, clots, just plain old measery. I feel great, I'm going on my 5th year now with no regrets. Just remember no babies ever if you have this done unless you adopt. God Bless and Best wishes
