Susan, without doubt it's 'La Mer', of my favourites from around fifty years ago. If you particularly like the tune and not just the singer, try and find a copy by a Frenchman called Charles Renna, that is the incorrect spelling of the name but that is the way it sounds. Worth the trouble

the original hit song was sung by the late Bobby Darrin
titled La Mere translated to Beyond the Sea he did the best version in the late 1950,s
Sinatra did a good copy but Darrins version is better
first line is 'Somewhere beyond the sea

Somewhere beyond the sea
Somewhere waitin’ for me
My lover stands on golden sands
And watches the ships that go sailin’.

Somewhere beyond the sea
She's there watchin’ for me
If I could fly like birds on high
Then straight to her arms I’d go sailin’.

It's far beyond the stars
It's near beyond the moon
I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon.

We'll meet beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
And never again I'll go sailin'.

I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon
We'll meet … I know we'll meet … beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before.

Happy we'll be beyond the sea
And never again I'll go sailin'.

No more sailin' …
So long sailin' …
Bye, bye sailin'...
Move on out, captain …
So long, ensign …

I think I know the piece you mean. If it's the piece I'm thinking of Sinatra may have done it but I know Harry Connick Jr, did it. Connick is "bout as smooth as 'Blue Eyes" ever was. Yahoo "lyrics" and type in harry connick jr and scan down his song list. There are many but maybe a title will sound right. If you find one read the lyrics to see if that's it. Good luck...

It's a catchy tune and I like it...it sounds so outgoing. I think Frank Sinatra translated it into English from a famous french singer and I think the title is LA MARE or something similar.

Ok, I had forgotten the title myself, but I have checked iTunes and the name of the song is "Summer Wind". Happy listening.
