Of course it cost money to provide health care. If you were a doctor or nurse, would you work for free? How do you think these people feed their families and pay their bills? The hospitals/clinics/doctor's offices are not free to build. The electricity to run them is not free. The administrative staff expects to be paid, too. Oh yeah. How about all that expensive new medical equipment that's state of the art technology, such as an MRI machine or a 64 slice cat scan. That stuff's expensive. My cousin sells it for a living. Why should he give it away?

Yes.

Doctors and Nurses get paid. To get paid, they must charge $$$.

Medical equipment costs a lot of money.

Good medical equipment isn't developed if there's no one paying for it.

If the government pays for all medical care, the patient may get it 'free', but always remember the government pays for the care by getting the money through taxes. So it still isn't 'free'.
