the baby isn't going to notice if you don't have everything ready when he or she arrives so don't be too worried about it. you still have plenty of time, trust me!! most people go way overboard and don't need half the stuff they get!
When you have a baby shower ask for the smaller stuff like diapers (in different sizes), towels, bibs, baby manicure sets, themometer, blankets, toys, clothes, underclothes like singlets and socks, baby bath, crib sheets, shampoos, lotions and potions! etc...
You will probably need to start looking at car seats, cots, changetables and prams now so you know which one you want and can set aside money or lay-by it and pay it off before bubs arrives.
Then there are things like baby monitors and electric swings and play mats which cost a little more so are worth checking out and waiting till they come on special before purchasing.
I highly recommend checking out all your local stores and chain stores and when you see clothes and things marked down to clear, even if they are bigger sizes, get them and put them away so you save the money later on. I always have a box of things i'm waiting for the kids to grow into because I got them more than 50% off.
Here is a pretty comprehensive checklist of things for baby but keep in mind that you only need to get the necessities! And get your babyshower guests to get the more luxury items for you!
Best of luck! And happy baby shopping!!

HEY, CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!BET YOUR GETTING EXCITED!##
You need sleep suits for your newborn. The selection of baby sleep suit material should depend on the season. Buy thick warm sleep suits, if your baby is born in the winter months. Vice versa you should buy thin cotton ones if your baby is born in the summer months.
Baby Vests
Baby Socks
Baby booties
Scratch mittens
Hats (woolen if winter, cotton if summer.)
Snow suit if winter
2-Nappy/ Changing:
Nappies - newborns use 90 - 100 per week (but grow very quickly,
so don't buy a gross of newborn size disposables)
Soft white washcloths for nappy changes.
Bucket and safety pins if using terry toweling nappies.
Nappy sacks (use fragrant ones for those smelly nappies)
Baby wipes (use thick soft wipes they are gentler to baby’s bottom or cotton wool and water is just as good).
Changing mat
Nappy cream like soda cream/sudocreme
Changing bag for traveling (try to get one that has a built in changing mat)
3-Baby Bathing Gear:
Baby bath (you can usually buy baby baths that have a number of different accessories with them like thermometer, towel, potty and more they often work out cheaper)
Shampoo, Baby soap, sponge, flannel
Baby brush/comb, scissors
Baby lotion, oil, talc
Baby towel (the softer the towel the better. Always wash towels before using them)
Thermometer
4-Baby Sleeping Gear:
For the first few months you will need either a Moses Basket, crib or carry cot. While buying a baby cot, look for the British standard mark BS 1753. The cot must be sturdy and the mattress must fit firmly so baby’s head can not get stuck in any spaces. It might be worth while investing in a cot bed that will last up until your child is five years old.
Mattress: If you can afford, always buy a new mattress and make sure it is hard and firm. Try and get one with a plastic cover on.
Sheets: Fitted sheets are easiest but can be a bit expensive. Buy at least four sheets as they need changing quite often.
Several light blankets. Better choose light colours. Keep baby close by at night for the first few months and never use a pillow or duvet.
Good Luck, also by a book for those special moments, you can put scan pics in etc!

only get a few outfits - especially if you have a lot of friends and family (they tend to buy you a lot when baby is born)
think of the season it will be when your baby is born as the clothes out now might not be appropriate for then.
hold back on too many newborn size things - you may have a bigger baby than you expect.
cardigans
hats and mits (to stop baby from scrathing themselves)
socks
6-7 sleep suits
10 vests
baby coat (suitable for the season)
EQUIPMENT
start off getting about 6-7 packs of newborn nappies as these may become too small fast.
nappy bags
dont get too many wetwipes as they might not get on with your babies skin and so you may need to try a few brands before finding the best one for your baby.
if you are going to breast feed, its still good to have a small tin of formula and a few bottles just in case you find out your in the minority of women who cannot breast feed.
a breast pump - manual or electric.
moses basket and stand (they dont always come together)- for front room or bedroom or both
crib - for bedroom
quite a few blankets - so you dont need to worry about keeping one clean.
crib and moses basket bedding.
travel system - pram , carry seat, change bag - possibly one with the car seat bases for extra safety.
rain cover and parosol for the above.
bouncer
baby bath with a top and tail bowl
bath holder for the baby
bath toiletries etc johnsons is good
bath and room themometers.
sling
baby monitors
steraliser
this is all i can think of for now
mothercare has a checlist on the back of there catalogue which is helpful
quite expensive in there so look around for the same things just cheaper
hope this helps.

you'll need a about 12 sleepsuits, 14 vests, 4 cardigans, 3 pairs scratchmitts, a snowsuit/jacket, 5 blankets, 10 bibs, the rest of the clothes are up to you, you'll need a pram, if you get one with a carrycot then you'll only need this for the first few weeks, a changing mat, nappies, wipes, baby shampoo, baby wash, baby moisurising cream, nappy cream, cotton wool, a bath support, a steriliser, about 8 bottles, a changing bag, a car seat, about 4 baby towels, 3 sheets for the carrycot, after a few weeks you'll need a baby bouncer and a cot!
Good Luck!

The place that has wonderful ideas for the baby is Toys R Us, do you have a registry with them. They gave me great tips. You have 6 months to go, have you thought about what you are going to need after the baby? Do you have a birth plan? If I may give you some advice, if you are having natural birth (that's all I can advise on) get some Tucks pads (witch hazel cold pads) ... save the undies the hospital gives you and ask for more to take home ... gladly accept the long uncomfortable ice pack (you will understand) ... oh and get your toes done right before your due date ... you deserve it ... you are going to do fine and you will have everything you need for the baby ... especially because you are already planning well ahead :)

Congratulations! In thinking about what you need for baby, also remember there are a few things you will need for you. 1. Buy an exercise ball, as bouncing on it can help get baby in correct position, also it can be used during labour and after the birth to get you back into shape.
2. Kamillosan. If you plan to breast feed get a tube of this (from any pharmacy) as it helps soothe sore nipples.
3. Tea Tree oil. To go in sanitary towel after the birth. It soothes what will be stinging, and acts as an antiseptic.

Well my son loved his swing when he was a newborn up until he was about 4 months. He had colic pretty bad and its the only way I could get him to sleep sometimes. We have a bouncer and he really couldnt care less for it. I bought tons of things I didnt really ever use. I would say the main things to focus on is...a baby bath, clothes, bottles or pump or both, a play mat for the floor (with the hanging toys over it) a swing (in my opinion) bottle sterilizer (although you can boil them), you really dont need much to start with you get everything else as you go.

Friends or relatives who have children are probably a good place to start. Also have a baby shower, everyone does these days and you will get lots of gifts and advice from your guests who have had kids. Baby's don't really need a lot. If you are going to breastfeed you won't need bottles. If you are going to bottle feed you will need bottles, a steriliser, and formula. Just remember, baby will grow out of clothes etc very quickly so don't go overboard!
