I think what it boils down to is NOBODY wanted to give AROD anywhere near the money he wanted HE had to go CRAWLING back to the yankees.

Depends on terms.

1) the numbers they are talking come to the same amount the Yanks offered as an extention - Arod basically threw away $21 million by opting out.

2) He is begging to come back - he wants to be a Yankee

The Yankees ownership stated if A-Rod opted out of the contract the only way they would negotiate with him is if he would negotiate directly with the owners. Also, not many people know that Boras was the main reason of the opting out and A-Rod still wanted to be a Yankee. This is why he came back and struck up negotiations so recently

Yes yes they went back on their word. But A-Rod is paying for it, as he will be getting a 20-million (or so) dollar paycut to make up for the lost money from Texas. Hank Steinbrenner wouldn't even accept his call at first. So it's A-Rod who's swallowing his pride, not the Yankees.

I wouldn't say they went back on their word, since A-Rod came crawling back to him after Boras made himself look like " a bully with a bloody nose". A-Rod wanted to stay in New York, he only did what he thought would be the best for his career. Now he is going to be back in New York for another 10 years and be making about $290 million,so he should be happy he will be getting that.
