To my fellow Filipinos...
Where can I buy "Kapeng Barako" here in the Manila, Philippines or anywhere near that? And how do you prepare one?

Oh! And may I add: What brand/s do you recommend? Or is it generic?

Departrment Stores, grocery section.
I always buy Cafe de Lipa in SM stores (mine in Pampanga).

Batangas way of preparation:
Put fresh tap water in a pot, and heat with medium to high flame
Turn the heat off once water boils
Put desired amount of coffee and add sugar
Stir a few times
Allow coffee to brew for five minutes before straining.

I buy my Kapeng Barako in this little store called Bag of Beans. A short drive past the Mendez intersection, going further south. You will find it on the right side of the road.

You only need a percolator because you can buy the coffee already ground. Otherwise, you will have to buy a grinder. If you are such a coffee afficionado however, you may even grind you own coffee before you brew.

And while there, you can buy meat pies (English style, including steak and kidney pie) at the same store.

Batangas is well-known for Kapeng Barako...:)

The best coffee brew done using a cafeterie. A good cup will consist of around 2 tablespoons of coffee and 6 - 8oz boiled water at around 95-98C degrees. To achieve, this, let your newly boiled water chill for a moment. Since the boiling point is 100C, if you leave it for a second or two, it'll settle down to around 95-98C, which is perfect. Put in your coffee beans, pour the water, put your plunger on, wait for a while, then slowly press the plunger down the cafeterie. Yes, you can sweetened it with honey or brown sugar, 'coz an ordinary white refined sugar will not bring out the taste

Kapeng Barako is available in big supermarkets like the Landmark, SM Hypermart. There are plenty of SM malls in Metromanila.

For Landmark, there is one in Glorietta, Makati City and another in Trinoma, North Avenue, Quezon City.

Preparations instructions in the coffee label.
